2003 175 johnson

motor cranks fine when leaving dock and runs great. Stop for a few hours and go to crank it and it won't stay running when shift into gear. Changed low end jets but did not solve problem. Could it be the Stator ?

Check the position of your shift assist switch and test it for proper function. If it's not working correctly it will cut off half your cylinders at the wrong time.

Quick test for shift assist switch, just unplug it and try shifting.

Be careful if you disconnect the shift assist; shifting out of gear may be very hard (as when approaching a dock).

I have a 1998 150 carberated Johnson ocean runner. Simiar problem except I am able to stumble back to the launch on a few cylinders. If anyone out there has actually resolved this problem please post. I've change stator, VRO pump, checked compression, spark, changed power pack, so far no fix.
