I have been going through the posts here and have not read some similar problems but nothing that sounds like what my DT started doing. Last night the boys and I took the boat out for it's second outing since I went completely through my DT55 to test the engine some more and it ran like a bat out hell at WOT for about 30-45 minutes......I shut her down so we could talk a bit and decide where to take the the boat next and after sitting for about 15 or 20 minutes we fired her up and started out and she would not throttle up. Best we could do was around 9-10 miles an hour and the we were going through fuel at an incredible rate. We went through almost 20 gal of fuel in about 3 hours.Smelled like it was running super rich and when the engine started to run out of fuel it would take off add wide open throttle for a few seconds than die. I noticed that while she was running poorly if I disconnect the fuel line at the tank or engine that it would start to try to run at full speed again and then stall until I hooked the line back up.I know that cars do this same thing just before they run out of gas......sooo I'm thinking I deffinetly have a fuel issue?
I will add that we did have the boat out last week and after getting all the cob webs blown out of her the engine performed great , good idle, smooth accelleration, and great top end. Before that run I spent tons of hours and cash cleaning all the carbs including new gaskets,CDI was replaced, new battery charger coil and Primary ingnition coil, plugs, checked and cleaned out cooling system , replaced thermostat , lower unit was pulled and sealed after replacing impeller and changed out gear lube.
The only thing I did replace so far in the fuel system was the fuel pump diaphram. I'm not sure but I'm guessing it must be working if the carbs are running rich?? Am I wrong.......any help would be great.

It could either be your fuel pump diaphragm, or getting air in the fuel line ... also pump the bulb and see if all is sealed and perfect also see if there might be fuel pouring out the carbs when doing this .....

Re: DT55 power fell off??

I'm pretty sure I found the problem.....I tore down the carbs this afternoon and when I took the bowl off the center carb I found that the main jet had backed out of the tube it was screwed into. Not a carb specialist but I do know that if the jets not there it will run 'super rich' . I'm throwing her back in the water on Friday and see if she is back in the game. I did make sure all my lines and such were not leaking.....everything from the tanks to the engine are brand new , like I said earlier the only thing I did not replace yet is the fuel pump diaphram. I'll post as soon as the wife and I get back from from test run #3.......wish me luck!!

So that was the problem.....main jet unscrewed itself and created a super rich mixture.Took the boat out this afternoon and she is back to snuff. Just another thing to check for if your carbs start acting up;)
