Do the left and right side block cooling passages tie together on the Mercruiser 4.3

I have a 2008 Tahoe Q6 with a Mercruiser 4.3 v6 and I have a question on the block cooling passages. I winterized my boat last weekend and I consulted the owner's manual and drained the water from the block and cooling system. The manual only showed a block drain on one side of the block and that's all I saw when I looked at the engine but I don't see how draining one side will get all of the water out of the cooling passages on the other side. Do the two sides connect together some how? Am I making this harder than it is? is this set up common? Thanks for the help
