It has 2 new coils its getting fire to all 4 plugs,
it started the last time after it was flooded, took it to the water and it wouldn't start, Im out I haven't got a clue as to why it wont start,
The first time I started it I pumped it twice hit the choke turned the key and it busted off, I had a guy put new seals and an impeller in it and he took it to the car wash before he started on it,
anything would help thank you

You need 300 RPM to fire that motor with the plugs in, so use a fully charged powerful battery.

The chokes have to be fully, 100% closed for a cold start, and keep them closed until it fires. To be sure that they are working properly, take the cover off and watch the choke plates while someone cranks the engine.

Re: 1974 johnson 85hp it want start

I got it to start today, I had to choke it and push the fast start all the way up and crank the pi@# out of it then it started,
Is that normal?? I have a 65hp evinrude and all you have to do it choke it and it bust right off.
This the second boat motor I've had and I don't know much about them, and the book ain't much help about how to start it.
Thank you

Lifting the warm-up lever advances the timing a lot temporarily and opens the throttle plates a little bit; advancing the timing is the key.

Closing the chokes causes the vacuum created by the pistons to pull more gas and less air through the carburetors, enriching the mixture as needed for a cold start.

If you can move the choke solenoid in small increments, you can get the choke plates to close 100% and stay fully closed while you crank, which will speed up your starts and save wear and tear on the starter and the battery. Make sure that the plates are carefully synchronized before adjusting the solenoid.

Ok, we rebuilt the carbs and then checked the compression and one piston was gone it had O compression,
So now I have a 1977 javalin, Whats the diffrents between the two?
we check the compression and it all good,
