    Trouble shooting alternator

96 Mercruiser 5.7 with the old V belts and what looks like a motorola alternator down there. Last trip out, the volt meter on the dash showed lower and lower voltage. I noticed the electric choke wasn't working. So, I figured the alternator wasn't working. I worked on the choke wiring and...

    Finding rough engine alignment. Mercruiser

A 96 Mercruiser 5.7. The engine had been out by the PO. I put in a new gimble bearing. When I check the alignment, the tool gets stuck long before it bottoms out.. It's very hard to remove. So, I'm assuming that the engine is far out of alignment. *** How do you get the engine close to...

    Mercruiser bell housing.. Reinstall challenged

96 Mercruiser alpha genn II I installed new bellows into the bell housing. I replaced the cable and shift cable bellow. Now, I'm at the point where I'm hooking up the water and oil hoses. They're fighting me. It's hard to imagine pushing the bell housing/bellows into place with the hoses...

    Gimble bearing question

96 Mercruiser 250. I replaced the gimble bearing. When I pump grease into the bearing, it comes out from around the bearing edge, not seal on the center shaft. On my older boat, grease would overflow through the center shaft seal when it was full. I assume that this is correct. I'm...

    Gimbal bearing depth

96 Mercruiser 5.7 I've driven my new gimbal bearing into the housing til it stopped. There seems to about 3/4 of an inch gap between the back of the bearing and the seal. Is this correct? I'm trying to determine if I have the bearing all the way into the housing. Thanks in advance.

    Greasing the gimbal bearing

96 Mercruiser 5.7. I don't seem to be getting grease flowing out of the gimbal bearing seals when trying to pump in grease. (?) I pulled out the old gimbal bearing. I pumped new grease into the zirk fitting and it flowed out the hole on the bearing seat. I noticed the location of the...

    Gimble bearing puller tool

I have a slide hammer, but only a few hooks for it. I was looking at these bearing puller attachments. They look like they would work for pulling the gimble bearing...

    Upper Shift Shaft play

1996 Mercruiser 260 alpha 1 gen II With the drive off, I grabbed the upper shift shaft at the bottom. It is loose in the housing a little. The top of the shift shaft, where the lever is attached has no play at all. (just the bottom) How much play is normal? Perhaps the paw is supported...

Mercruiser Alpha 1 Gen 2 oil bottle

Don, Can I eliminate the outdrive Oil bottle on the Merc alpha 1 gen 2. I don't entirely trust the connection at the outdrive. Or, should I just leave it alone.(?)

    Bellows Quesiton

96 Mercruiser 5.7 Alpha 1 Gen2 I'm replacing the bellows and shift cable. It appears that a person should attach and sleeve the new bellows to the pivot housing, then try to mount the bellow on the transom mount. I'm used to OMC, where it's the other way around. It seems like it...

    Trophy 23 Baitwell Quesiton

I want to put a aquaworld UT-23 on either the swim step, or deck, forward of the engine hatch. For those with the Trophy 2352, which location worked out the best?. My older boat has the transom boxes, which make for a longer reach to a transom mounted bait tank. Though, it would be nice to have...

    2352 oil filter

My Mercruiser 5.7 has the oil filter under the engine. I'm not sure how I'm going to get under there to get it off. Any suggestions?

96 Trophy 2352 bait well sump removal

Okay, my 2352 has the fish boxes and bait well draining into a shallow sump box with bilge pump. The box tends to overflow and fill the bilge. I don't like the idea of salt water in the bilge. I've climbed down into the cave and found the bottom of the baitwell. It seems high enough to...

2352 leans to port while underway

It's a deep v boat, I expect it to lean, but what is normal and have you used trim tabs to find level?

    Fish box liners ?

The Trophy fish boxes collect water and dirt. Undersized drains plug easily. My bait well and fish box drain into a small sump box that contains a float switch and pump. I'm not impressed. After long thought, I believe the best fix for the fish boxes would be to fashion a plastic removable...

Sump box for fish box and bait well

My 96 Trophy 2352 has a sump box that the fish boxes and bait well drain into. I gather the drainage drops into the box and is pumped overboard. It seems that the bait well is up high enough to drain overboard. I don't know why it drops into a sump box. So, the question is, how well do the...

    Kicker on swim step

96 2352 with the full width swim step. The step is braced more than most Bayliners. Seems pretty stout. Can you mount a bracket to hold your kicker. Maybe I should re enforce the swim platform to prevent it from flexing. I plan to slow troll for salmon with an 80+ lbs kickers.

    Radar Arch

96 Trophy 2352. I'm looking for a radar arch. Love to have a hard top, but don't think I would find one. I imagine I'll end up with an Atlantic towers "arch in a box" eventually. It's always great to find a clean used piece around.

    Trophy ?

I'm looking at this 96 2352. Very clean. Used in the fresh water. Any comments? I understand that this is the newer hull with stringers. I gather they did away with the stringers in 2000. Strange basin at the helm. Hatches in the transom.
