    1960 40hp

    Having problem getting my 1960 hp to top end.. With the throttle full out the engine is only a bit above idle. If I shut it down and restart it picks up considerably but still does reach top end speeds. Any thoughts out there? Thanks, Bill

    Burping the engine

    Last season my 1960 40hp never would get to full speed. When leaving the dock it would move at idle even with the throttle all the way full. After a few minutes, I would shut it down, restart and it was OK. But never truly at full speed. Any suggestions. Thanks, Bill

    Run Away Prop

    I was recently out on Lower St. Regis Lake, New York. While dead heading at full throttle all of a sudden it was if I snapped the shear pin. I lowered the rpm's and put it in neutral, put it back into forward and was off. It runs great at low and mid range, but every time I bury the throttle...

    Stabalizer Fins

    I snapped off one of the stabalizers on the lower housing. The yard that is doing the work say's I do not need the extension fins which may have contributed to the stress on the fins.<br /><br />True or false?

    Carb Jets

    How would I check the carb jets visually to make sure they are good? They look ok but I don't know what I'm looking at!<br /> Also I have the low speed running fine. Is there anyway to set the high speed in a test barrel?

    Salt or fresh water?

    My 1960 Johnson is colored a cream/white. I,m told that the engine color designates weather it is set for salt water running.Stainless stuff inside.<br />Any help? I want to do some Bay Fishing this summer off the coast of Maine.

    Carb Cleaning

    Cleaning the float bowl on a 1960 40 sea horse, I notice on the float assembly what appears to be a weight of some kind.     Johnson 40 Carb?
