Black scuff marks on cylinder walls

I just figured since it was on the hot side of the piston the heat caused those pin holes. Thanks for the help and information!

Black scuff marks on cylinder walls

Do you know what these little pin holes are? Looks like corrosion or something. The pits aren’t too deep but there’s quite a few of them

Black scuff marks on cylinder walls

So I’m assuming the big thick black one inside the crankshaft head seal is what stops water from from back up into the motor and keep oil from leaking out. That and the seal

Black scuff marks on cylinder walls

It’s a 1994 Johnson 90hp v4. Model number J90TLERC. I have looked at multiple diagrams and cannot seem to figure out if it’s suppose to have an oring below the splines. I am replacing the bottom crankcase seal and the oring that sits inside the sleep that goes at the end of crankshaft that...

Black scuff marks on cylinder walls

There is definitely a spot for one on the driveshaft. But there’s also a big oring inside the crankshaft head cover. So does that seal the driveshaft or does it need an oring added on the driveshaft as well?

Black scuff marks on cylinder walls

I have a question about the oring that sits at the top of the driveshaft. Mine currently doesn’t have one on it. When I replaced the water pump last year it also didn’t have one when I pulled the lower unit. My manual says to install oring on the upper drive shaft but I can’t find an oring on...

Black scuff marks on cylinder walls

I will check all that when I get home. The deflectors were clean. No debris what so ever or sand or what not.

Black scuff marks on cylinder walls

It honestly looks like the motor has ever hardly been used. I mean the paint is all nice. Under the cowling everything is clean. I’m baffled with the way the cylinder walls look

Black scuff marks on cylinder walls

It looks fairly new. Most lower units I’ve seen have paint missing from going through sand and water. This one has never lost a flake of paint anywhere. I bought it from a guy that had it on a pontoon. They used it in a no wake lake. So that may be why the lower unit is in such good shape
