    VP 4.3 GL-B - Spark issue

It's the black rubber float and it felt light, although I've never felt the weight of one before. I'll try the rest. I know someone that might have the same carb, and will see if I can try a swap.

Still no luck and too much fuel... Installed the carb, still too much fuel. Although I've learned that the rebuild probably did some good as previously fuel was flowing from the "J pipe" (referenced in another video I found). Now it is flowing from two spots in the carb directly into the...

    VP 4.3 GL-B - Spark issue

Went back today. Compression tested 120-140 (120-125 at the front, higher at the back). A little wide in the range, but should run that way I think. Maybe need some engine work soon. I took the thermostat out and it was pretty clean, no major issues that I could see. New carb kit (for that...

    VP 4.3 GL-B - Spark issue

Got to the boat this morning. Pulled all the plugs, they were all wet (gas). However, tweaked my back doing that (getting old sucks...) so only put the compression tester on one (front passenger) and only finger tight, tested at 90psi. Seems a little low, but was only finger tight. Now I need to...

    VP 4.3 GL-B - Spark issue

Haven't checked compression yet, tomorrow's job. Kit had new needle/seat - no float. This float looks good and floats in water. I leveled the float as per the instructions in the kit, it sits level (parallel to the bottom) when dry. I found another after market kit that includes the valve vent...

Yes, manuals are very valuable. I did the carb rebuild today but got a generic kit for the Holley 2 barrel carb, and it didn't have one specific part. In this video (not mine) at 6:02 is a red flapper relief valve or something: The kit didn't come with one and the one in my carb looks like it's...

    VP 4.3 GL-B - Spark issue

Yes, I'm going with DIY. My father was a mechanic and he hated it when I took something without a computer to a shop. I'll probably go buy a compression gauge to do that check as well. Right now I have more time than money, so I'll put some careful effort into it. I bought the boat from my...

Here is a picture of the connector: https://drive.google.com/file/d/1SpMBw46A2YzH4WMS-pPHq9j2-0TraeT4/view?usp=sharing Have lots of spark, but still not starting. I think the carb rebuild suggestion is in order as I changed the sparkplugs and they were very wet. Off to learn something new...

2004 Four Winns 180 Freedom I have spark now, but still putting it all back together. Water was off at the storage yard today, so couldn't start it. Hopefully tomorrow.

    VP 4.3 GL-B - Spark issue

I think I've solved my spark issue, although the solution has raised a big question: Reminder, the purple wire at the helm has power when key is on. I checked the purple wire on both sides of the 10-pin connector and no power on either side. I followed wires all over the place and found an...

Thanks for the reminder. It doesn't take much for a big boom ;)

    VP 4.3 GL-B - Spark issue

Thanks for the thoughts and questions. on (1) flooding is possible, there is a lot of fuel pumping when turning the engine over. (2) The latter, one spark as engine starts to crank, and another when it stops cranking. No spark in between. The bypass from battery to coil positive post is what...

    VP 4.3 GL-B - Spark issue

There is power on the purple wire at the helm (guages all work), but not on the purple wire at the coil or alternator. Must be a break somewhere. I am going to check the 10 pin connector when I get a chance next.

    VP 4.3 GL-B - Spark issue

One more question. Looking at the wiring diagram and the brown and pink wires that run from the distributor ignition module back to the main coil - the pink wire has a resistor. Do you know how much resistance this should have? Or how to test it?

    VP 4.3 GL-B - Spark issue

The low oil pressure alarm definitely works, and it appears to get power from the purple wire as well from looking at the wiring diagram. Do you know, the yellow/red wire from ignition, thru the neutral safety, thru the harness, to the starter relay then solenoid - I assume this is just to...

I know the fuel guage was working, but will check it again when I go to the boat later.

I'll try the bypass idea. I tried bypassing the kill switch (and neutral safety switch) with no luck. I haven't been watching the guages (too busy looking back), but will have a look. Thanks.

    VP 4.3 GL-B - Spark issue

I hope you can help with this issue driving me crazy. VP 4.3L GL-B 2004. It's been sitting for almost a year. Wouldn't start, carb was bone dry so replaced fuel pump. Fuel flowing well now (almost too well) when turning engine over. Still not starting. Checking spark from ignition coil, there...
