Well, I started her up! As far as I can tell she runs SWEET. I didn't get the rpm's all the way up because there's no load, so I'm waiting until we can go to a lake. But I got it as high as it was having problems last time and it did great. It is pumping a lot more water since I fixed the broken...

So I finally got it all back together. I got some car door seal for the cowling off Amazon like @Crosbyman said, and that worked sweet. The last thing is I can't find that huge bolt that sandwiches the extension on the bottom back of the lower unit, so I'm gonna have to find that before I start...

Oh, I leak tested the gearcase AFTER using the rtv and it leaked. It was that propeller shaft seal, where there's metal on metal contact where it presses in. I was mad because there was rtv and already oil in it, but I got it apart and back together and now it doesn't leak a SINGLE air bubble.

Updates yes, fishing no. (But soon!) I haven't been working on it much because I've been waiting on parts, but the last one finally arrived yesterday. I started putting it back together but didn't get very far before I had to stop for the day. But tomorrow or the next day I should have more news...

I made a tool for pressure testing the gearcase. I drilled down the center of a bolt, clamped a piece of hose to it and clamped a pressure fitting to the other end of the hose. I hooked it to the air compressor set at 10 psi, and like I feared the gearcase leaks. It's at the front where the...

Yeah, I just looked and I need to get one. I never knew you were supposed to fill up the gearcase from the bottom!

I don't have the pump for the oil, so maybe I need to get one.

I got all the new seals in the gear case and I got it back together. It shifts and operates like it should. I don't have any special tools for leaktesting it, is there any way I can do that DIY? Other than putting it in a bucket of water then taking it out and seeing if there's water inside...

Does anyone know of a replacement for the seal that seals the shroud? I can't find one. And ours is all dry and cracked up.

I soldered the tube together, that went quite well and it seems sturdy enough.

Thanks! The motor is in really sweet condition, I don't think it was used too much. And just a point of interest, the boat I have it on in the picture was made by Cadillac (Not the one that made cars!) in the 1950's. I want to strip all that paint that someone sprayed on the boat off, and...

Now I'm debating whether to try to weld/solder the tube to try to save on the project, or buy a new one.

    1957 Johnson Rd-19 35hp questions

I just got it out. I used some heat, then I had to knock out the bushing that tightens it and holds it in, then I got a large bolt and screwed it into the broken copper tube piece and pried on that, and the tubing piece came right out.
