    4.3 Vortec Harmonic Balancers...

Thanks for your thought too, I'll stay with the marine one for this stock rebuild.

    4.3 Vortec Harmonic Balancers...

Thanks guys for your quick replys. My initial thoughts for using the original marine internal components was that they would have much less wear and tear than the truck engine because it would likely have had a lot fewer rotations on it in its lifetime. The marine engine had practically no...

    4.3 Vortec Harmonic Balancers...

I'll try and make this short and too the point to keep things simple. I have a 98 4.3 with a cracked block and I just bought a 99 4.3 from what I was told came from an S10. I can't use the crankshaft from the cracked block because of water damage to it. The crankshaft from the S10 looks nice...

    98-99 4.3 bare block/short block interchange

Thanks guys. Scott thanks for the clear concise answer! :) Lou, thanks for the tip on the drains. I've never winterized this boat so I'll take your advice on the remote drains. Our first boat has a 3L Volvo Penta and the drains are easy to get and as you know, you do need to make sure a good...

    98-99 4.3 bare block/short block interchange

Ok so my 99 Regal has a 98(cast June of 98) 4.3 with a block casting number of 14099090. It is cracked from freezing and needs to be replaced. Heads look okay. I have found a supposedly running 99(cast Feb of 99) with a block casting number of 14099090M from a S10/Sonoma. My question is, does...

scratches on the block where the balancer shaft bearing sits on 4.3. Does it need to be machined or can I just press the bearing over it?

The gouges themselves won't be an issue but the raised metal around them should be removed so that the bearing won't have any possible distortion once installed. If that were mine I would carefully use a fine round file or stone to remove the high spots and leave it at that. What are your plans...

What to look for before reinstalling a 4.3 engine

That all sounds like good advice and now I'm wondering how to accomplish some of it. So for the exhaust Y pipe, how do you inspect this for leaks, does it need to be pressure tested or is a detailed visual inspection all it needs? As for potential rot, what is the best way to check for this...

What to look for before reinstalling a 4.3 engine

The engine is a 98,(boat is an 99) and this was the first time for me to remove a boat engine. With the help some some members here it went quite well, easier than I expected! So since I'm quite new at this I'm wondering what all I should be looking at that might need attention before I...

98 4.3 Mercruiser Engine Removal Advice

Well it's out, no issues at all. I did try the lag bolts and was able to turn them maybe half a flat and they became quite tight so they should be okay. Thanks so much guys, I really appreciate all the advice.

98 4.3 Mercruiser Engine Removal Advice

I was thinking that I should have a good look around when the engine is out but since I'm so new at this, I wasn't sure where to start. Thanks and I'll check those things for starters and do some searching here too. What would be a typical torque for the lag bolts? I'm thinking I should see if...

98 4.3 Mercruiser Engine Removal Advice

Well I think all I have left now is to lift the engine. I don't see anything around it and two bolts at the rear of the bell housing and two nuts at the front engine mount are off. I just have a few questions... XjasonX, what are the "mount stringers", and "make sure the lags will torque" ? Are...

98 4.3 Mercruiser Engine Removal Advice

The boat is a 99, the engine I believe is a 98. The engine stamp pad shows T06109LJ and it has what I believe is a Alpha 1 Gen 2 outdrive. I have a Mercury Service Manual that came with the boat and it's dated 99 so I assume it's current for this boat. My question is, is it as straight forward...

2004 Volvo Penta SX-M1 Outdrive Cracked Bellows.

Thanks again everyone for your tips and advice. The drive came off with no issues. I cleaned everything up and couldn't see any obvious corrosion. I also pumped grease into the gimbal bearing while turning it until clean grease came out so hopefully it was saved in time too. For now it's all...

2004 Volvo Penta SX-M1 Outdrive Cracked Bellows.

Thanks guys for all the advice and quick replies! Yesterday I loosened the six nuts that attach the drive and it started to slide off on its own so I don't think it will be too bad to remove. I never even thought of the shaft and gimbal bearing seizing so that was a good point to make. I also...

2004 Volvo Penta SX-M1 Outdrive Cracked Bellows.

Sorry if this is a noob question and I apologize if my terminology is off. The bellows that keeps water away from the CV joint and gimble bearing cracked and allowed water in sometime this summer. I noticed this while winterizing it yesterday. White sludge was coming out of the tear from the...
