    Honda 90 plug problem resolved

Honda marine cannot definitely tell me what caused my #2 plug to close up after 2-3 hours run time (see previous post). The local dealer removed the head and said "perhaps water in the cylinder caused by a hairline crack in the block caused cylinder detonation." Instead of replacing the head...

    Melting spark plug Honda 90

I talked to an automotive mechanic about the spark plug problem in my previous post (spark plug story). He feels that the #2 cylinder is running extremely hot and softening the side electrode enough to bend. The engine compression is closing the gap. It's his opinion that the carburetor on that...

    Spark plug story

Good day all....I have a 1998 Honda 90 with almost 600 hours. Strange situation has developed this year......I installed new plugs and after running about an hour or so (I use the boat as a commuter and usually run around 4800 rpm) the #2 cylinder died. Upon removal of the plug, the electrode...

Question for One Last Cast, jdenton

Going back in the posts to 09/16/2003, I see you guys had that same sceeching noise I do when trimming my Honda 90 down. I don't see any posts where it was resolved. How did you make out??

    Honda tilt and trim problem

Since this forum has been so helpful in solving my previous problems, I figured I'd give it another try. My Honda 90 has started making a sqealing noise when I lower it in the drive position. Raising it and lowering it in the trailering position sounds and works fine, and even raising it in...

    Gas economy

Ok.....gas is $3.75/gal at the marina. I'm thinking the Honda 4 cyl (specifically a 90hp)is a marine bred Civic motor. Most cars get their best gas mileage at 2500 rpm....is this also true for outboards? Would it be most economical to put a high pitch prop on and keep rpms low. I realize this...

    tachometer pole settings

Does anyone know what the pole setting number for a Honda 90hp should be? My tach tops out at 4200 and I'm not sure if it's the wrong prop or tach incorrect tach setting. Used boat, questionable past repair history.

    Honda 90 tachometer setup

I'm questioning my tack readings...4400 at full throttle. Before changing props (or tack, as the previous owner recommended), I'd like to make sure my tack is set up correctly. On other posts I've read about rectifier pulses and the selector switch on the back of the tack. Can anyone tell me...

    Honda stuck in reverse

Newbie to the forum....great stuff. I'll keep it short. I've recently purchased a 20'CC with a 1997 Honda 90. She ran fine until yesterday when I shifted it into reverse and she jammed there. Not a good feeling backing around the mooring field at 5 knots....afraid to shut her down because of...
