Noise from out drive when giving it throttle

I have a 88 sea sprite with a 3.4l and mercruiser alpha 1 gen 1 outdrive. I have replaced the engine block and reinstalled the motor. I used the alignment tool to install the lower unit. The motor idles great and sounds great but when I give it throttle wether in gear or nuetral it makes a loud...

Problem fixed the temp sending unit was bad. Thank you so much to everybody that chimed in.

    Overheating issue.

I did get the oem gaskets with the copper rivets in them. And when i ground the sensor to the block the temp gauge jumps upto 240. As I believe it should. also I do not get an audible alarm for overheating. When I first turn the key I get 2 beeps. So I would expect to hear an alarm when the...

Thanks I already order the quick silver temp sensor(admittedly I did go with a cheap one on amazon) so hopefully that works or I will replace the Gauge and see how that works.

So I still need to pressure test the manifolds on monday. But I just idled the engine for 5 min. The gauge read 240 which it maxes out at. But my IR temp gun was pretty stable at 160 at the base of the thermostat housing. Even the manifolds were reading 160. Now I'm wondering if I got a bad temp...

    Overheating issue.

How would I go about pressure testing the manifolds? Another thing I'm thinking is, if they are not clogged and I have water coming out the exhaust how am I overheating because the water comes into the thermostat housing, and flows through the water pump into the motor, through the thermostat...

I agree that is a good way to test them with pressure. The water that was originally found in the manifold must have been from when I pulled off the riser, since there was no rust at all in the manifold. If the manifolds are the issue I can run the boat with muffs and disconnect the hoses to...

Took off the intake hose that connects to the thermostat housing and had lots of water coming out.

Now I took off the manifold again and I have great water flow going through it and through the riser and no water seeping in the exhaust section. The thermostat opens as it should. Why am I still overheating?

I have no idea how old the manifolds are. But there is no signs of rust in the exhaust section. Plus replacing the manifolds will cost more than I paid for the boat, which would be an acceptable expense if I new they were bad but they seem good. I assume by flusher you mean water pump?

    Overheating issue.

Well, I put it back together and it is still overheating while hooked up to the ear muffs. And 1 manifold is hotter than the other. So I am taking off that manifold and trying to blow some air though it and make sure it clear. I also might try and take out the thermostat to see if that is...

Maybe something was a small clog in the manifolds and I freed it up. I will put it back together on Monday and see how she runs. I will update on Monday. Thanks

The balls are just touching the housing and the springs feel good. I guess I don't know what good really is but they seem like they're not too tight.

I checked the manifolds by removing them and putting water through them.

    Overheating issue.

You are correct, the thermostat housing has a hos going to each manifold and riser and also has the ball and spring thing. So I will order the correct gaskets. Thanks. So now I have established that their is nothing wrong with the manifolds and risers and no obstructions, good impeller, and new...

This is what my riser gaskets looked like when I took the risers off. Why would they make them restricted on 2 sides of the water jacket? I am thinking that I will replace them with gaskets that are not restricted.

So my next step is replace the flappers and retrieve any obstructions in the exhaust.

The boat was last running on earmuffs and the y pipe of coarse has no water in it there is a puddle inside the port side manifold. It is not complete full but as I look down into the manifold I see a pddle.
