Alignment and coupler question 1979 Mercruiser 260

That's what I kind of thought. I assume you need some way to hoist the engine to do that though 🙄

Alignment and coupler question 1979 Mercruiser 260

Yes, there are splines in the coupler. It was working fine last weekend, the only reason I pulled it apart was water in the bellows. There didn't seem to be much if any grease on that shaft, and it was extremely difficult to pull it out.

Alignment and coupler question 1979 Mercruiser 260

Member I have a 1979 Mercruiser 260. The engine was replaced about 10 years ago (less than 50 hours on it now) . I pulled the outdrive to replace the shift cable, found water in the bellows and replaced the u joints, bellows and gimble bearing. Only took me like 3 days of work. When I pulled...

Oil Pressure Switch Necessary with the Sniper EFI?

I'd prefer to leave the auto prime in place, just not sure that technically meets the USCG regulation since it does it automatically when the ignition is turned on. From a practical standpoint, it only primes for 5 seconds then shuts off, and you would normally be starting the boat at that...

Oil Pressure Switch Necessary with the Sniper EFI?

Yes, the Sniper is USCG approved, as is the 12-920 Fuel pump they sell. I have used A1 fuel lines and approved fittings and hose clamps. As far as I can tell, everything in my new system meets the requirements, but I want to make sure the wiring on the fuel pump also is in compliance.

Oil Pressure Switch Necessary with the Sniper EFI?

I am almost done with the process of installing a Sniper EFI on my 1979 Mercruiser 260. It's on and working, I am just finishing up wiring the fuel pump. Most posts and videos I've seen say that you need to wire in an oil pressure switch to be USCG compliant. The actual regulation reads...

    TIMING QUESTION Mercruiser 260

This thread was super helpful. Couldn't figure out why my timing mark was so far off. I even bought a TDC tool and verified my TDC mark was correct! This is exactly what the problem was. Lifted it, one notch over, now I can actually use my timing light to verify my timing!

Best upgraded ignition system for use with Sniper EFI on a 1979 Mercruiser 260

I am working on converting my 1979 Mercruiser 260 to the Sniper EFI. I'd also like to upgrade the ignition system from the original points to something better. I'd love to do the Hyperspark and have the sniper control everything, but I'm not sure that is coast guard approved. Does anyone know...

Fuel System questions for Mercruiser 260 EFI Conversion

Yup. I'm half way through upgrading my exhaust system to the center risers to put one of those in. Had to find some longer bolts for the riser today to make it work!

Fuel System questions for Mercruiser 260 EFI Conversion

The ones that I've seen done, they had to update the software profile for the Sniper to start learning/tuning at lower Temps. Every story I've seen where people have done it to this engine, people seem happy with the results. Why won't EFI work at the lower temps?

Fuel System questions for Mercruiser 260 EFI Conversion

It's actually hot starts that are more frequently the issue. And idling too fast. Or dying at idle. And not restarting. And flooding. All issues I'm sure can be resolved, but I've had the carb rebuilt twice now in the past 8 years and the problems never really go away. I'm over it. I want...

Fuel System questions for Mercruiser 260 EFI Conversion

The fuel water separator does have a spot for an in, but it currently does not feed back to the tank. Are you saying the return line could just go there and not feed back to the tank at all?

Fuel System questions for Mercruiser 260 EFI Conversion

I have a 1979 Mercruiser 260 (Chevy 350/5.7) engine that I am converting from the old Rochester quadrajet to the Holley Sniper EFI system. I'm doing the Rochester version that sits on the same intake, which also does not have a fuel pressure regulator built in. I am struggling to figure out the...
