    Thank you for the replies, yes I believe it is a standard Rotating Shaft Shift Linkage. Just one rod moves up and down, at least without going into the gears by the propeller.     Just spent a couple hours on this, dissembled and reassembled three times. Each time reverse disappears. If anyone has an idea or advise I would appreciate their help/expertise.

    Been a lurker on this site and it has been helpful. Have a Mercury 1994 or 1995 9.9 sail-master all are long shaft or long shaft plus. Take it apart, line up drive shaft, water tube and shifter linkage. All are aligned finish, check and it shifts properly F, N and R. Start it up and it then...
