    4.3 Carb vs 5.7 Carb

Will I need to get an adapter plate if I go that route due to my intake being a spreadbore and edelbrock being squarebore?

    4.3 Carb vs 5.7 Carb

Hey everyone, I successfully swapped the 5.7 into my boat and only thing left is the carb… I cant find any specs on the carb I have only possibly due to its age. Curious on if the carbs would be similar between a 1981 Merc. 5.7 and 1988 merc. 4.3 other than the 4.3 being 2 barrel and 5.7 being 4...

    4.3L Mercruiser Milkshake

Also contacted Michigan motorz and they said all splines/couplers are the same for the drives! Looks like I should be good to go with a flywheel and new coupler for the 350. Thanks for the help everyone!

When pulling up specs for an alpha one gen 1 driveshaft it says “Fits 1972-1990 R, MR and Alpha one” which seems to me like it should be the same driveshaft and coupler splines.

    4.3L Mercruiser Milkshake

$1000CAD with new manifolds/elbows, and electric ignition module/kit. Rebuilt in early 2000’s, 700 hours since rebuild, Which is a much better deal than any other motors near me. Will the older style coupler still mate with my alpha shaft?

    4.3L Mercruiser Milkshake

It’s an 18ft light boat , I was more leaning v8 because of the good deal it would have been. It includes the exhaust parts I need aswell. I will look into a vortec block aswell. Thanks Lou!

    4.3L Mercruiser Milkshake

Damn… my 4.3l is definitely 1 piece main seal as my bolts are Center on covers. Huge bummer that it won’t work, thanks for catching that guys! Is there adapters for the couplers or anything to make the swap work or am I SOL?

    4.3L Mercruiser Milkshake

I believe 88 but would have to double check when I’m home. He said came out of his 89 boat so just assumed it was an 89 motor. Big changes from 84 to 88/89? Edit : I’m an idiot and mixed up ads I was looking at… it is indeed an 84. What issues am I looking at here?

It’s a 18 ft 1989 Doral Bowrider. Converting it to a fish and ski layout with more of a bias towards fishing. Should haul ass with the 5.7 haha.

Appreciate it! The motors are the same year so hoping coupler will be reusable! How big of an upgrade did you find the 5.0 over 4.3?

    4.3L Mercruiser Milkshake

Going Wednesday to pick up that 350! Should be a fun boat when it’s all said and done. Still hoping to splash it this year. Has taken me a year and a half so far working weekends to restore this thing so getting antsy!

That’s what it looked like to me! Probably rusted itself thin and it’s first start up in 10 ish years blew the hole open I assume.

    4.3L Mercruiser Milkshake

I asked him if it included a module and this was his response… It had a Mallory points and condenser distributor that I swapped the points out for a Pertronix Electronics ignition kit in. Way more reliable than any Thunderbolt module and if it were ever to fail I can put the points back in and...

    4.3L Mercruiser Milkshake

Thanks for the reply Rick, What added expenses do you figure? I know I’ll need a new distributor as Scott said, it includes the exhaust manifolds/risers. Anything else I’m missing that won’t be reusable off my 4.3?
