Dry carbon fouled plugs 120 hp mercruiser

I gave it another look before going out on the big lake tonight. I checked both filters, turns out filter on the carb had rubber pieces in it from when I checked the tank siphon. Swapped filter out and now the boat runs perfect. I'm still going change the power piston at the end of the season...

Dry carbon fouled plugs 120 hp mercruiser

This is what I was referring too. It's what controls the power valve by vacuum from what I have read.

Dry carbon fouled plugs 120 hp mercruiser

My carb kit came Wednesday and I did a rebuild. One thing I noticed was that the power piston was bent, which I think I did end of last season when I was all stressed out from it running like **** and didn't make sure it was seated right before cranking it down bowl cover. Took boat out...

Dry carbon fouled plugs 120 hp mercruiser

So update. I pulled the carb apart to see if anything looked off and ripped the gasket, so f it, I'll rebuild it again. I did notice that the accelerator pump had a broken tab around the plunger, so now I want to make sure it's not in there floating around. Any suggestions on which carb kit is...

Dry carbon fouled plugs 120 hp mercruiser

I would have to figure out how to do that. I think the ear thing would be good for me. I just don't want the thing to smoke like it is.

Per Tronix and it calls for resisted in the directions. The choke butterfly arm was not centered in the electronic choke coil.

Dry carbon fouled plugs 120 hp mercruiser

Ok, I will do that when I go out today. I had a few different things going on that I have straightened out. One being the wrong coil, I switched over to electronic ignition and thought the accel super stock coil would work. After further inspection I realized it has no internal resistor, which I...

I definitely have that going on. Is the needle on the bottom of the carb? 1 1/2 back?

Dry carbon fouled plugs 120 hp mercruiser

I'm pretty sure I set the float right. I learned how to do it watch Mike's carburetor on YouTube. I changed the coil over to a flame thrower, seems to run and sound better. I still have a good amount of smoke, but I feel it's all the carbon burning off. I also checked all cylinders for...

Dry carbon fouled plugs 120 hp mercruiser

I think I have it figured out. When I converted over to electronic ignition, I didn't change coil over from the accel super stock coil I had on there. Although it's a 12volt, 3 ohm, 40,000volt, it's not internally resisted. I ordered a flame thrower that is, so hopefully this will correct the...

Dry carbon fouled plugs 120 hp mercruiser

I'll check it out tomorrow and post what I come up with. Worked on compression test today, but after further research, I didn't do it the right way.

Dry carbon fouled plugs 120 hp mercruiser

Need a little help on which direction to go! I have an 1983 open bow sportcraft with 120hp 2.5 mercruiser with 2 barrel Rochester carburetor. It's running rich and will foul the plugs after being on the water for a few hours, then hesitates on acceleration. I believe the hesitation is due to...
