502 manifold casting plugs and elbows

Intake hose came off the water pump and the exhaust manifolds got pretty hot. After new water pump, the plastic plugs on the manifolds and riser as well as the elbows with the drains are leaking. I'm going to replace with brass oem plugs and elbows. Should I just put them in or should a thread...

    Winter draining 502

Hopefully I'm just overthinking this. I have a mercruiser 502 MPI. I drained both block and both manifold plugs. Also drained plug in cooler that is down low on port side. Pulled big hose off circ pump. Also pulled intake hose from engine mounted water pump. Got to thinking...... I assumed the...

    Engine hatch access

Just put in new heavy gauge wire and relays for my hatch actuator. Worked GREAT. Went for a boat ride and hit some big cruiser wakes along the way. When I got home the hatch actuator wouldn't open. Did some quick troubleshooting and I'm pretty sure one of the butt connectors at the actuator must...

    Exhaust manifold leak

Looking at buying 2001 boat with single 502 mercruiser mpi There is a small leak under the exhaust manifold. I couln't see a crack and there are just droplets there with very slight hint of steam. The mechanic at the marina thinks the problem is a plastic casting plug leaking. States the fix is...

    Flooring advice

I'm putting down 3/8 in prefinished engineered hardwood floor over plywood sub floor using 2 in cleats. In all the diy sites I see a felt or roof paper used. Is this for sound or squeak prevention? Is it necessary?

    Too may hours?

I'm considering buying a 96 32 ft Envision boat with twin 415 hp 502's. Boat is pristine but engines have 700 hours. Assuming they run well on sea trial and compression tests good how much risk would I have that these would need rebuilt in the next couple of seasons?

    4.3 mercruiser temp issues

I have twin mercruiser 4.3 TBI 2000yr B3 drives. As part of my summerizing process I put in new t'stats in both engines. They are 160 deg. The starboard eng warms up to about 170-175 on guage. The port engine runs up to 190+ then drops to 160 in a constant repeating cycle. Occurs over 1-2...

    Winerizing mercruiser

2000 Regal 2765 T 4.3 Mercruisers I just winterized my twin 4.3 Mercruisers using steps outlined in Mercury service manual. I got to thinking about the hose that takes engine water from the stbd engine to the water heater. Does this portion of the system drain naturally when removing all the...

    90 Yamaha Waverunner Cavitating

Strong acceleration but "blows out" on rough water VERY easily. Was told it might need impellor and wear plate. Is this very expensive and can I DIY it? As good as this old bike has been to us (had it since 2000) I fear it's not worth too much money.

    Infrared temp gun

I'm looking into getting a temp gun to help troubleshoot some cooling issues. I'm finding price ranges from $40 to $300. Will the $40 ones do the job?

    1990 v6 200 water leak

Came in from fishing and after raising boat on lift I noticed water draining from lower cowl. Took off cover and found lower cowl full of warm water. Tilted and drained water. Lowered back in water and started. There is a healthy stream of water running down between starboard head and cover that...

    Bravo III sea water pump

New to me, 2000 4.3L (twin) Bravo III outdrives.600 hours on engines. When it was dewinterized, the mechanic said one of the pumps was a little difficult to get going? He suggested impellor change. In looking up part numbers, I can buy the impeller, o-ring, and wear plate for about 50 bucks...

    Trim/tilt motor replacement

Left manual at lake when I brought boat home to fix. 1990 200 merc. It appears that the whole unit must be unbolted from the outboard in order to access the bolts to r&r the trim motor. Can the pin from the tilt ram be left in place while this is done? Anything I need to watch out for when...

Trim n tilt fixable or replace?

My 90 200 trim and tilt motor has been becoming increasingly SLOW both directions. Now it still moves but Barely. Pump/motor is prolly toast. OEM only comes as a unit $900 Aftermarket is $500. Anyone have any luck just replacing brush cage and brushes? Is it hard to do on this model?

    96 Force 120 no charge

Similar to a recent post, my 96 Force 120 shows same voltage runnig or not. Tach works normally and motor runs great. 3in x 3 in square box on starboard side of eng(I assume this is rect/regulator) has a burnt area thru epoxy. I plug in onboard charger when on lift so low battery hasn't been an...

    MO Bass and Mercury

The state of MO came out with an interesting catch 22.
Due to Mercury accumulation, they advise that no one eat large mouth bass greater than 12 in. in length.

For the majority of impoundments in MO, less than 12 in. must be thrown back.

Oh well

    Water heater

Elec water heater quit yesterday. Only one year old. Fuse was blown. Replaced fuse and had to push a reset button on upper control unit. Now get hot water for only a few minutes. I'm thinking one of the two elements isn't functioning. Anyone know how I troubleshoot the two control units vs the...
