Excessive voltage when running 1992 Johnson 115SPL

I meant to thank you both-- it's great having this resource to help out us mechanical cripples! Thanks and have a great holiday!

Excessive voltage when running 1992 Johnson 115SPL

Thank you-- I'll probably let the pros take care of it. I appreciate the help and advice!

Excessive voltage when running 1992 Johnson 115SPL

Batteries are good; I pulled them and brought them in to check and they're fine. When idling I get a good reading on my voltmeter at ~13.5, but when I am running it slowly starts climbing as high as 16+. This happens with either battery and verified by my multitester. It sounds like the...

    Nothing on key turn

Nice! I'll be trying that recipe soon!! And yeah-- I guess "beaver attack" was pretty far down most people's lists, especially those in gatorland. However, with global warming gators may soon show up here in north Georgia and the whole beaver problem will be solved ;-)

    Nothing on key turn

Ok gents-- mystery solved. After checking all the connections again and testing the voltage at the ignition, I was pretty much stumped. Then I noticed that the fish finder wasn't reading depth and had a weird signal. As I looked around at the back of the pontoon, I realized the transducer...

    Nothing on key turn

both good ideas-- can't get back up to the lake to try these until after thursday and hopefully still able to move after turkey fest. Thank you all once again!

    Nothing on key turn

Ok-- you guys have convinced me to give it another try. I should mention this is on a pontoon so access to the wiring in the console isn't difficult, although I do have to remove the shifter to take the cover off the control box to reach the ignition switch. One other thing-- when I turn the...

    Nothing on key turn

Thanks for all of the replies. I checked a bunch of the wiring from the ignition under the console and didn't see any loose connections. The batteries are fine and polarity is correct. There is a perko switch but it doesn't matter which battery its switched to I am getting power to the trim. I...

    Nothing on key turn

Thank you for the link-- will check out the wiring diagram and look thru all the connections in the controller, etc today. I appreciate all the help.

    Nothing on key turn

Thanks for all the suggestions. The battery terminals are clean and connections are tight-- one battery is brand new and it doesn't matter which battery is selected on the perko. Both get power to the trim.

    Nothing on key turn

Fuse is good; engine gets power since I can see it with a volt meter and the trim works. I can't see how it's a battery issue since the power to the trim is strong. I think it has to be in the control box somewhere or the ignition switch. I don't think its the starter solenoid since there is...

    Nothing on key turn

thanks-- please describe what you mean by side connector plug. Shaking the tree seems like a good call and I'll give it a shot when I get up there.

    Nothing on key turn

Yes-- thanks. The motor would turn over if the kill switch was activated, but I get nothing at all. Appreciate the response.

Racerone: Nothing when I push it in as far as I can tell, and will check the fuse this afternoon and report back if you're still online. Thanks for replying.

    Nothing on key turn

Thanks again for the replies! Yes-- battery is connected and I have power to the engine via the cable to the starter. I am going up to the lake this afternoon-- I will verify the fuse: visually it looked fine but I never did check continuity. No clicking at all with key turn. I tried jostling...

    Nothing on key turn

Thanks for the fast reply. Yes the fuse looks good. Not sure about primer solenoid--- actually not sure where that is-- but I don't hear anything at all when the key is turned. How would the volt gauge not register anything unless the ignition at the control box had some connection issue? I...

    Nothing on key turn

My 1992 Johnson 115 will not start: nothing when I turn the key. Batteries are charged and I am getting voltage to the engine. I am assuming it is the neutral switch, but one thing is bothering me before I go tearing into the control box: there is no voltage registering on the dash gauge when I...
