    1964 Johnson JW-19M Restoration project

I did a detailed examination of three points; the original points, a set from Johnson/Evinrude Original Parts from China, and a set from Sierra made in Taiwan. Check it out here:

    1964 Johnson JW-19M Restoration project

So, I contacted the vendor of the Evinrude Johnson Genuine Parts points P/N 580148 and told them about the low quality points. They claim no responsibility for the quality of the parts and state they are original OEW parts from the manufacturer. They said they will pass along the feedback and...

I will send a notice to Cowelymarine regarding the points.

    1964 Johnson JW-19M Restoration project

I just installed a new set of points from tune up kit 18-5006. They fit perfectly. Those I got earlier (part 0580148) did not fit. They formed no gap at all and I had to try filing them down (which did not work). I have not finished installing both sets and doing one more inspection of the...

    water pump not pumping

Just two things to add from my experiences with impellor replacement. Given you are likely holding the impellor case upside down when twisting the impellor in, it needs to go in counter-clockwise so that it is in the clock-wise position when you flip it right-side-up when you install the casing...

you gotta do what ya gotta do. The good thing is that you get faster and faster at tearing it apart and putting it back together.

    1964 Johnson JW-19M Restoration project

Thanks, I will order a set and check it out. Both 'marineengine' and 'crowleymarine' listed part 0580148 as the correct points for this engine. If 18-5006 fit properly, I will post.

    1964 Johnson JW-19M Restoration project

Yes, fully aware of the cam screw. Set at even the largest gap setting, there is no gap. The material on the stationary contact is visually much thicker on the new point, despite being the correct part number (0580148). I bought 6 for various projects and they are all the same.

    1964 Johnson JW-19M Restoration project

Tried putting in new points in the 1964 Johnson 3hp. 'out of the box', the gap was way too small. The contacts were too big to form any gap as the cam rotated. I tried manually filing down the contact on the stationary point (put the point in a vice and filed the contact down), but that...

Asking for help with Johnson 1956 3hp decal

This is the typical decal you can order for the "Three" symbol: This is what I threw together with some electronic tracing: I am also considering to have the grey area printed as clear, and put the decal on foil. Then glue the foil to the shroud and clear coat it. I will experiment with both...

Asking for help with Johnson 1956 3hp decal

Thanks, but I am looking for images of originals. I do not find these decals close enough to the original, at least not for the "Three" symbol.

Asking for help with Johnson 1956 3hp decal

I recently ordered a set of decals for a JW-12, a 1956 3hp Johnson. I was underwhelmed by the quality. I plan to recreate my own as I have done in the past. I do need some help confirming what one of the decals looks like. Its the "three" on the side of the lower shroud. I include a...

Need help with 1968 1.5 HP Johnson model SC-10S

I have noticed over-revving on my older 2hp when I turned the high speed needle in a bit too far. Double check all timing issues; point gap, when the speed handle engages the butterfly valve (at SLOW, it should just touch the arm), and your spark plug gap. I found that the only way to properly...

    1964 Johnson JW-19M Restoration project

After I am done the JW-19, I will be turning my attention to this beauty. A 1956 JW-12. I will likely sell the jw-19 just to free up the space I need to store the ones I use. The style is very similar to later models, but the colors and decals are so much nicer. This unit will also require a...

    1964 Johnson JW-19M Restoration project

I am doing the prep work to repaint the cowling of the 1964 JW-19M. Of course, I much prefer the colors and decals of the earlier models. Early 50's models were green with a really nice sea horse logo. The 1956 was a deep burgundy. The physical look of the cowling of the 1964 appears...
