    Distributor harness 1976 mercury 115

I appreciate the suggestion and in principle it makes sense. The challenge is one wire is broken pretty close to where it goes into the distributor. I could try to mend it good enough to test for spark as you suggest. Not much to lose at this point.

    Distributor harness 1976 mercury 115

Im in western Canada. I just got the motor along with the boat. An older 17’ Larsen. All cylinders have good compression and I’ve replaced the engine wiring harness. Still, those distributor housings are darn expensive. I am pretty good at mechanical stuff so may have a go at fixing it. It’s not...

Cowl Frame Ground vs. Engine Ground?

Installing a wiring harness on a 76 merc 115 and the instructions refer to engine ground and cowl frame ground. What’s the difference and how would I do each?

    Stator function 1976 115 Mercury

The two stator wires go to a small block mounted to the engine. From there they go to the rectifier. One goes to the same rectifier post as the brown wire that goes to the wiring harness. Is the stator grounded? I’m trying to figure out how to test if it has output.

    Stator function 1976 115 Mercury

I recently acquired a 1976 115 merc, the 6 cylinder. In addition to the distributor and what appears to be an ignition module it has two wires coming from under the flywheel which I guess are from a stator. What’s the function of that stator? Does it just run auxiliary thinks like light etc or...

    Air intake 1975 20 hp

I have been working on an older evinrude and I’m curious about something. There’s no opening anywhere on the cover for air intake. How does this engine get air when running?

    Switched coils/wires?

1975 Evinrude 20HP. I’m wondering if it matters which of the two coils fires which cylinder? If I switched the terminals feeding the coils should it make any difference to starting and running? I’m trying to identify a problem and thinking if it’s one of the coils this would help.

    High idle

This is my first time posting on the forum. I have come into possession of a 1982 Johnson 15hp. It starts easily and pumps well. But the idle is very high. I don't have a lot of experience with outboards though I am pretty handy with cars and so on. Adjusting the idle speed knob on the side did...
