    Sounds like the starter may not have enough torque and struggling to turn the motor. It can bench test good and still be weak. I'm far from. an expert but had that problem with a jet ski.

    I have a 2003 Mercury 40 hp efi that had high pressure pump in the vst go bad. After replacing and putting it all back together I can't remember if the fuel pressure regulator had a hose connected. There's not one on the outlet pipe now and I may have buried it behind the tank when reinstalling...

    I have a recently purchased 2001 Mercury 115 efi that is turning my two bottom plugs black(3 and 4 cylinder). Boat wouldn't plane out when I first got it, only sputter with more throttle and eventually die. Ran a compression check, cleaned the vst, new plugs, and changed injectors. Ran the boat...
