Ok, so I replaced my thermostats in my 2005 Yamaha f225. In the process I moved the linkage to the control valve several times. Once the project was completed I started the engine and it immediately ran up to 3000 RPM. I am pretty sure moving the linkage before reconnecting to the control valve...
