Mercruiser 3.0 Leaking Water On Top of Manifold

There is a drain plug on the underside of the manifold. Is it coming from there?

Sea Water Pump Cover - Question

I would suggest a careful examination of the plastic body for cracks and also confirm that you did not have a leak at either the in or out hose. Sometimes the impeller is perfect till it is not. My experience with that pump on the same engine has been to change the impeller every 100 hours.

Mercruiser 5.7L competition ski squealing noise when driving under load randomly

I have also heard rattling noises when idling too slow in gear that people smarter than me have said are coming from the damper plate, which is attached to the engine flywheel.

Mercruiser 5.7L competition ski squealing noise when driving under load randomly

I have run a 5.7 liter Competition Ski with a Borg Warner velvet drive (fnr) behind a Walter V-Drive for the last 26 years and have fought belt squeal a lot, going through several serpentine belts, but your recording does not sound like belt squeal, although recordings are tough to analyze...

    3.0 Mercruiser

I see you mentioned you ”cleaned the tank”, but without removal, it is difficult to confirm you have all debris removed. The pickup tube can still periodically plug with debris, which then drops off as the suction reduces. You had two suggestions to run on a remote tank to isolate the problem...

    Throttle Cable Conundrum

Check out IslandExplorer’s post last Monday. Get the cable parts number with the parts lookup referenced by AllDodge, which should be available with Sierra cross reference. Your control is available on eBay.

    Mercruiser Controls

Item #14 in the diagram is mercruiser 18-37809, which is a hairpin, rather than a clip type as shown in your photo. The mercruiser hairpin appears to also be readily available. I got a bit carried away chasing this down, but it was helpful for my application as well.

    Mercruiser Controls

Check out marineengine.com and go to remote controls, 1985 and below. Your remote looks like #68832a1, and the pin looks like #13 on the diagram, which is mercruiser part 17-37801, which is available from them, but also several places online with that OEM number. I do not see the clip on the...

    Mercruiser Controls

An eBay search for Mercontrol shows your unit (binnacle mount, not helm mount, as I called it) and the side mount. A bit spendy just to get your part.

    Mercruiser Controls

I have a very similar control connected to 1974 140, although it is not the helm mount type, but rather a starboard side mount where only the arm is outside the side panel. The portion behind the panel, looks very much like yours. Over the years, I bought a couple of old ones on eBay, as well...

Trying to diagnose fuel supply issue after running out of gas

If you can suck as hard as a fuel pump at 3,000 rpm’s, you are a better man than me.

Trying to diagnose fuel supply issue after running out of gas

This does not address the possibility of something still in the tank plugging the pickup tube. Running on the water from a remote tank is not hard to do in order to rule this out.

Trying to diagnose fuel supply issue after running out of gas

My 1974 Mercruiser 140 had a problem with a fuel restriction in the pickup tube. While that was happening, the fuel filter, which is identical to the one you have shown, would collapse, also as shown. My theory was that the fuel pump kept pumping while there was no fuel being delivered to it...

Water penetration in Alpha 1 sterndrive

Check the clamp on the U-Joint bellows for tightness at the transom assembly. You can access it from the outside with the drive up. You should be able to see if the bellows has slipped down from where it should be.

    Intermittent fuel supply issues

To eliminate the possibility that it is gunk in the tank periodically plugging the pickup tube, or an anti siphon valve sticking, if you can do so safely, run on the water on a remote tank or gas can with your fuel delivery hose in it.

Boat starts perfect but shuts off after 20 mins of driving

Put your new fuel hose in a remote tank or gas can, if you can do so safely, and run it on the water. If it does not shut down, you can isolate the problem to the fuel tank and fittings. If it does, keep looking.

"Pre-Alpha" stern drive bellows and gimbal replacement

Get your outdrive serial number, which is usually stamped into the upper drive casing decal. Go to a site like mercruiserparts.com, which has a diagram lookup that will show the drives made in 1976 and the serial number range. The drive should have a decal with the type of drive, like 888 or 235...

Engine starts, idles for 10 seconds then dies

Try isolating the problem between the carb and fuel plumbing by disconnecting the fuel hose downstream from the T and connecting to a remote tank, even a half full 5 gallon gas can, if you can do that safely.

Fuel system problem on 13 yo storage boat

I agree with Kenny as to the screen inside the pick up tube. A quick internet search will reveal hundreds of opinions as to using sealant on fuel fittings. The anti siphon valve into the pickup tube is an NPT thread, as is the pickup tube into the tank. In my humble opinion, no sealant is...
