Continuous alarm and 30 second shutdown (plus)

Hello all, just sharing a final recap, thanks for all the help. Buzzer wouldn't turn off, engine would cut off after 30 seconds. Seemed to see oil in the bilge, and dipstick was low (with no prior oil issues). Added some oil to get to normal on dipstick. Still exhibited the same behavior...

Continuous alarm and 30 second shutdown (plus)

Sweet! So it is likely the sender giving a bad signal. On the hunt to find a replacement. Thanks again!

Continuous alarm and 30 second shutdown (plus)

Thanks guys! As an update, my neighbor put a manual pressure gauge onto the engine and got readings I think in the 30-60 range, which he thinks means the sensor may be bad... I don't know the normal pressure or whether it changes under load, but he was pretty confident it meant I wasn't truly...

Gauge Identification / Testing / Replacement

When you say 'for a gauge' I think you mean a 'sender' that goes to a gauge, am I correct? I wasn't sure what the difference between the temp 'switch' and 'gauge' was... Is 806490T correct for 'engine temp' sending then (actually measuring the cooling water I guess)? And if I'm looking at...

That's temp sender / sensor plus oil sender, I believe...

Gauge Identification / Testing / Replacement

Thank you guys both. I think the manufacturer told me to talk to the dealer last time I checked... But I will doublecheck. I definitely am not interested in repairing them... Here are the sender / sensors I'm going to replace on the back end for starters: (These part numbers are coming from the...

Continuous alarm and 30 second shutdown (plus)

Gotcha- that is to perhaps kill the fuel to shut the engine down then? And I just realized I posted the wrong serial # for my engine. It's actually 1A335597

Continuous alarm and 30 second shutdown (plus)

In the time I posted, my neighbor found what he thinks are 2 engine oil (as opposed to gear lube, which we have disconnected) sending units... One is a 1 wire near the distributor, the other is a 2 wire near the oil filter. I believe it's the 1 wire which when disconnected, ends the buzzer...

Continuous alarm and 30 second shutdown (plus)

Thank you very much!!! Just to be clear- you mean because I disabled the TKS, correct?

Gauge Identification / Testing / Replacement

Hello all. Mercruiser v6 4.3l with TKS Serial #: 1A335597 August 2008 4.3 TKS Family 8M9XM 04.32VC I have a Nauticstar deckboat with the following gauges / multi gauge clusters (see attached). None has a vendor mark that I've been able to find. The multi...

Hello all. First my engine info: Engine Info (transom ID) August 2008, serial #A177296 Mercruiser v6 4.3l with TKS (tks is disabled / bypassed due to prior issues) Short story: This morning I had a continuous buzzer on startup. Stopped and doublechecked my gear oil reservoir...

Mercruiser 50 amp ignition circuit breaker?

Odd timing. Replaced distributor cap and rotor the other day. Seemed to resolve random quitting / difficulty starting (cranking but not firing). The next day, went to test some more, and couldn't get it to catch. Turned out I coincidentally ran out of fuel apparently as I docked the night...

Hello and thanks for any info for this ignorant but great mechanic-neighbor-having boater... 4.3l Alpha 2008 stalling surging rpm oddities

Hello all- I am a software guy, non-mechanic, so please cut me some slack as I try to debug and communicate. My neighbor is a long time mechanic but hasn't had experience with this TKS or the electronic advance timing; he would prefer the carburetor was a simple mechanical one without TKS in...
