    Low Compression on Cylinder #2

My pistons have the retainer rings. The wrist pins don't slide out freely, but they do move pretty easy with a light tap using a punch. I've been looking at the Wiseco pistons, but have not decided on forged or cast. Any suggestions on best place to buy them?

    Low Compression on Cylinder #2

Yes, the shop can tell me if .010, .020, .030 or .040 will clean it up the damage, but they said I should provide the size to bore it to, so it will fit the oversize piston. I don't have the piston yet and I don't think they want to be responsible for the piston not fitting right. Seloc says the...

    Low Compression on Cylinder #2

Good points Jerry. The only shop I've found so far said I need to bring the size limits in with the motor. Where can I get those? Regarding failure cause, I can inspect the port gaskets and look for leaks. When I go back down with all new gaskets, what's the best sealer to use?

    Low Compression on Cylinder #2

I called around last week looking for a place to do the machine work and only found one, so far. They want $75 a hole to bore, $30 to machine hone and $10 to hand hone. Thanks Jerry, I'll be calling sales/service places this week to see who they use. Until measured, I don't know if 1, 2 or all...

    Low Compression on Cylinder #2

I'm not sure all will require oversize pistons, until they are measured and cleaned up. Trying to find a machine shop in my area that can do it. Not having much luck so far. Regarding cause, what about water in fuel? I had that problem early this summer. Engine stopped while motoring across the...

    Low Compression on Cylinder #2

I'm leaning toward repairing it the right way. I found a powerhead rebuild kit that includes: 3 pistons, rings, wrist pins, wrist pin bearings, wrist pin washers, circlips, rod bearings, upper crank bearing, rod bolts, gaskets, seals, O-rings, gasket sealing compound, Loctite, crankcase sealer...

    Low Compression on Cylinder #2

Yeah, a quick look at Craigslist in my area this morning shows a 1984 Mercury 75 for $1500. 11 years older than my motor and probably wore out too. There's a 1996 Johnson 125 with 10 hours on a rebuild. Asking price? $5000. Where's a good place to find used motors? If I cannot find a different...

    Low Compression on Cylinder #2

Searching the archives I found some good articles about removing the rod cap through the intake and pushing the pistons out the head end. So I went ahead and removed the head, and the piston from my trouble cylinder #2. The piston is damaged and both rings are broken. Sections are missing from...

    Low Compression on Cylinder #2

I sure would like to see Frank's video. He posted a lot of material. How would I go about finding it?

    Low Compression on Cylinder #2

Well, I guess it doesn't cost anything to take the head off and take a closer look. Maybe I can see what's going on with the #2 piston. Taking the piston out would be the best way to see the cylinder wall, piston and rings. Then I can see how bad it really is. Can I remove the piston without...

    Low Compression on Cylinder #2

In the attached photo, is the red arrow what looks like a divot? I thought that was carbon deposits. However, I can look closer tomorrow and maybe get better pictures.

    Low Compression on Cylinder #2

History: My 1995 70HP Force has been dying at idle lately. It is difficult to get into gear, before it dies. Many times I have to use fast idle to start, even after it is warmed up. For cold start, fuel enrichment seems to be working properly. I increased the idle speed, which helped, but it...

Firing multiple times on one cylinder

What would be the cause of spark firing multiple times per revolution? My motor is a 1995 Force 70 hp, 3 cylinder with one switchbox assembly and separate coils for each cylinder. I first marked the cylinder # on top of the flywheel at TDC for each cylinder. When I put the timing...
