2005 Yamaha 150HP water pump drive shaft leaking.

I’ve never payed much attention to where the water comes out when running with muffs but, I think you are right and I’m coming to the same conclusion. Thanks for your comments…

2005 Yamaha 150HP water pump drive shaft leaking.

Thank you for the cutaway picture which clearly shows water flow coming out from around the shaft when engine is running. I’m sorry to say that I’ve never payed any attention as to where the water comes out when running with muffs, that is, until now that I changed the water pump. This...

2005 Yamaha 150HP water pump drive shaft leaking.

Can not see water with lower unit installed. But, lots of water shooting out small drain hole so, assumed water leaking from around shaft. I don't think there should be any water coming out of drain hole when motor is running.

2005 Yamaha 150HP water pump drive shaft leaking.

That's right there is no seal directly on the shaft. the only seal is the O ring between the SS impeller housing and nylon cover. Yes, I looked closely at all the parts and even reinstall old parts and still water from the muffs goes through the pump and out around the shaft. this was done with...

2005 Yamaha 150HP water pump drive shaft leaking.

Yes, the top of the water pump where the shaft goes through. All replacement parts are OEM, it just seems like the shaft seal should prevent any water from coming out around the shaft.

2005 Yamaha 150HP water pump drive shaft leaking.

Install new Yamaha water pump kit on my 2005 150HP. Started engine with muffs on, observed large amount of water shooting from the small drain hole on the side. Removed lower with muffs still on and noticed water bubbling up around the drive shaft which explained water at the drain hole...

    Hard To Shift

Update: The problem fixed by lubricating the sliding block that is attached to shift cable, lubricated bell crank attached to sliding block and most important, lubricated the bushing supporting the vertical rod going down to the lower forward/reverse gears. I hope this helps other people with...

    Hard To Shift

Engine idle speed is only 600 RPM, engine runs very smooth. Does the shift lever assemble ever need extra lubrications? Boat in moored in marina so I have plenty of time to idle engine down when trying to shift in and out of reverse.

    Hard To Shift

One more thing, shifts into forward good but not reverse. It actually shifts very hard from reverse to neutral. Need some advice. Thanks

    Hard To Shift

2003 Mercury 115HP O/B has become increasingly hard to shift (never did shift smooth like my I/O) over the past 4 years that I've owned it. When I last changed the water pump the shifting mechanism seem to work very good. I've opened other shift lever boxes in the past and know they can easily...

    Replace 2002 115hp lower unit

Thank you, very interesting information and does that mean I can take the parts out of my 2002 lower and put them into a 2007 lower gear case? Are 2002 and 2007 gear cases exactly the same and interchangeable?

    Replace 2002 115hp lower unit

I know a 2007 "as is" will not fit on a 2002 without some or major modifications - if that's even possible. Thx

    Replace 2002 115hp lower unit

When shifting into reverse it makes a short gear grinding noise and sounds noisy when running with water muffs but works okay. I suspect reverse lugs are worn or something like that. I have an opportunity to buy a 2007 lower in good condition, the only thing I see different is length of shift...
