The iboats forum moderators are excited to announce that at this time it appears the iboats forums posting pictures function is working once again. Though we cannot promise for how long, we're hoping for indefinitely.
How do I find part #s for Mercury outboard? I'm not a wealthy person and I need bearings for the lower unit of my 1993 75HP Mercury outboard. Between my shop manual and on-line, I've been able to find many exploded views but they only show something like "Bearing #5" with no part #s. Can someone...
My brother-in-law needed to rebuild his 1997 305 marine motor. The block was cracked so he was told to find another motor that uses the 1 piece crank seal. Did the machine work. When we went to assemble found that the "new" motor is an 1986 and won't accept the 1997 roller lifters. Everything...
I have a 1993 75HP Mercury outboard that the lower unit froze and broke the bearing carrier.
Have a new carrier but looking at the parts, there seems to be 3 ball bearings between the 2 small shafts.
Can anyone tell me where I can find these ball bearings or at least a size?
Thanks for your time...
I live in the low mountains of S.E. PA. Very fortunately we are probably the least likely to be affected by natural disasters that would require emergency evacuations but I do live 7 miles form a nuke plant. IF we ever had to evacuate, it would probably be immediately. With all that is going on...
Hello,
I have a 1984 Lowe Commander 17.6' aluminum bass boat. Basically like the Bass Tracker of that era but a little heavier. Long, narow and shallow. It is rated for a 75. I bought it in 1986 with a 1986 4 cyl. 75 Mariner and never had any issues. The motor died and I put a 1993 3 cyl. 75...
My 1984 Lowe 17.5' alum.bass boat is rated for 75HP. I bought it in 1986 and it had a new 1986 75HP Mariner on it. After 25 very dependalbe years, I messed up and didn't notice the water pump. I found a beat up 1993 75HP Mercury and bolted it on. Ran good until some carb issues. While rebuilding...
I am switching from a 4 cyl.1986 75 Mariner to a 1993 Mercury. It has been setting for a few years so I am trying to change the water pump. The 4 nuts came off easily but the one brass lock nut that is up inside fell apart. Because the nut was spread apart, I thought it was a standard 3/8 16 but...
While cleaning top of lower unit still mounted to my boat, preparing to reinstall the rebuilt powerhead, I accidentally raised the shift rod. It didn't drop right back in but I wiggled it around for a few seconds and then it dropped back down. I haven't found anything in my shop manual about...
Hopefully my picture will come through this time. I took pictures as I took my motor apart but I can't see where this wire runs. It is attached midway up on the plastic carb linkage and has an "eye" end. It looks like a ground wire but it is on a plastic linkage. The only place it looks like it...
Hello,
I took pictures as I took the motor apart and I'm fairly sure the bolts were lost at the machine shop as one picture shows them in place in the stripped down block. We couldn't find them at the shop. Anyway, I am hoping someone can sell me 4 of the small allen bolts that hold the stator...
I don't know if this SELOC Mercury shop manaul is a direct reprint or they just pick out stuff to throw in there but it is not very helpfull to my particular motor. I want to put the crank case cover on my 1986 75 HP 4 cyl. Mariner and the only info says to put a thin coating of sealent and...
Dropping in the crank and checking the end play. According to my shop manual for my 1986 Mariner 4 cyl. 75 HP #A199493 the end play should be between .004-.012. It is just under .012, so that will do but it says iit should be shimed as equally at he end as possible. From new, the motor has never...
Sorry, a moment of dyslexia. It is an 1986. Every forum is different as far as posting a picture. I believe you can look at the bottom of my question and there is something you can click on that shows the picture. I was at work when I posted the question and was thinking of the reeds as valves...
Pulled these bearing apart to get crank polished and ready for rebuild. I took the bare crank to my local machine shop. He said the rod journals would only need polishing but he had never see wear like caused by the 10 aluminum bearing surface fins on the crank. He is concerned about the wear on...
Atempting to remove trim piston rod from frame attached to lower unit and motor on my 1986 75 Mercury. The thru bolt has a large slot. Much wider than typical large screwdriver. Is it actually a screw? What is needed to remove this pivot bolt?
Thanks yet again,
Karl.
Sorry that I don't know the teminology but it looks like a pivot tube that the steering cable/rod goes through can be easily removed and I'm guessing it will seperate the motor from the mounting frame? IF so and if they ate the same on my 1986 75 Mariner and the 1991 75 Mercury, can I simply...
I'm removing my 1986 4 cyl. 75HP Mariner from my boat. I have to take my boat to where the 1991 3 cyl. 75HP Mercury is hanging. I would like to know if MERCURY uses the same mounting hole patterns for these 2 motors. I have a lot to do and little time to do it, it will save me some time if they...
Hello again,
I have been trying to rebuild my 1986 75 HP and running out of time. Yesterday, I bought a 1991 75HP. It fired right up with the nasty smelling gas the seller used to show me. It came with a new or at least rarely used gas can, working titl/trim, complete trottle controls, nice...
I can't figure this out. I know I make mistakes and that I can deal that and I'm hoping I've done something wrong that is fixable.
I'm assembling the rods to the crank and they won't clear the crank. If I spin the crank, the skirt of the piston hits on the counter weights of the crank. I'm...
