Low to no water at idle

I just replaced the impeller on my 18HP 65' model Evinrude. At idle there is little to no water coming from the exhaust port. When I give it some throttle the water flow increases drastically. The flow isn't a stream as I've seen in Youtube videos and on other engines but it is a significant...

1966 evinrude 18hp lower unit removal

I'm changing my impeller on my 18hp Evinrude but can't get my lower unit completely off due to the shifting rod holding it in. I can get I'd say a 2" gap between the lower unit and where it bolts on but I can't get it any further. I'm sure it's something simple but rather than pull hard on it...

    Throttle "home" position

I picked up my new to me 1966 Evinrude 18hp motor. Anyway the steering bracket was cracked (I knew that going in) and when you turn the throttle handle it lets the cog over rotate and so I know it's out of sync with the home position (for lack of a better term). I''m calling it the home position...

    Which book

I'm looking for a manual for my Evinrude engine. My question is this, would the OEM manual as shown in the attached picture be good enough for general maintenance/repairs or do I need to buy a more detailed book. What do y'all use? Any input would be appreciated. Thanks, Charlie

    What boat is it?

A friend of mine has had a boat on one of his ponds for like 20+ years. I asked him a while back what he was going to do with it and he told me to take it if I thought I could use it. Anyway I picked it up this weekend and was hoping if I posted some pictures and dimensions someone could help me...

    grounding during compression testing

Would clamping a jumper cable to the spark plug and then clamping the other end to an engine bolt be an effective way to ground the coil during compression testing? Thanks, Charlie

    Johnson 18 HP engines

I'm going this next weekend (weather permitting) to look and hopefully purchase one of two engines I've found on CL. My question is this: what compression pressure range should I be looking for on the upper and lower cylinders on the engines. One is a 1966 and one is a 1958. Thank you, Charlie

    7HP on a 14' V-hull

I have a 14' V-bottom aluminum boat and have found a good price on a 7HP Johnson outboard. I'm hoping some of you have experience with this exact or similar set up. How many MPH can I expect to go with and and against the wind? I know that's somewhat an open ended question but I'm just talking...

    1956 Johnson 18 horse value

Is the motor in the title worth 350 if it sparks and has good compression? It's in very good cosmetic condition. Thank, Charlie

    1957 Johnson Seahorse 18HP value

What would be a fair price to pay for a good running 1957 Johnson Seahorse in 18HP? Thanks, Charlie

    What are my chances?

In addition to an Eska motor that I've got a question about in one of the other forums I'd like to buy a 10-15 HP Johnson or Evinrude to have a larger motor for my 14' aluminum boat. I've worked on 4-cycle lawn mower engines and stuff like that off and on so what are my chances of restoring one...

    Briggs and Straton 4 stroke

Are the Briggs 4 stroke good engines? Anybody on here own or have owned one? I see a few showing up on CL and wondered how good they are. Thanks, Charlie

    Sears 3 hp motor seized

I was given a Sears 3 HP motor a few years ago and in addition to the Eska/Clinton motor I've been working on I decided to get this motor out and see if I could find out where it was seized up. Well it appears to be in the motor head/piston area. My question is there any hope of getting the...

    Eska 5hp questions

Good morning all, this is my first post here but I've been reading some posts. I bought a 5HP Eska engine at an estate/garage sale from a guy I know here in my town for either $10 or $15 about a year ago I don't remember for sure. Anyway I decided to get it out and start tinkering with it to see...
