Will it hurt the 1991 40hp evinrude to run the motor until I can get a replacement rectifier installed?? I know this is for the recharging the battery and how many starts on the average can you expect from a good fully charged battery with out the recitifer working???
I am assuming the tube that is about 12'' long attached to the Steering helm under the console is for oil, But what type and weight??and how much. It appears to have a spring Inside the tube, the tube is a semi clear plastic.

I am have a issue either with the Tach or a possible rectifier or could it be something else.
1. When I start the motor the tach goes to 6000 at idle, volts read 12 after a few secs. the tach returns to 1000 still a little high for idle.
