I have a 40 hp Johnson out board model #J40TLEOD and the forward/reverse linkage is bindinding and getting harder and harder to get in or out of gear.I have have disconnected the cable and it is moving freely so I suspect I will have to take the bottom leg off and check the mechanical linkage...
