Puff of Blue Smoke when started after sitting for a month or so

2013 Honda 115 Outboard. After sitting for at least 30 days it had one small puff of blue smoke when started. Only happened one time and the motor runs just fine afterwards. Should I be concerned?

Stubborn stains on my pontoon logs

I've tried Toon Brite from West Marine and an acid based product from Boaters Warehouse. In (parts of) three days I have managed to get "most" of the black tar like substance off of one of the tubes. I've used my pressure washer enough to burn nearly an entire tank of gas. There simply...

No lights - No blowers - No radio - No anything

1994 Sea Ray 330 Sundancer. Perko switch on "all" (with one brand new battery just installed) I get absolutely nothing. No blower, no radio, no lights, no anything. And, of course, motor doesn't even grunt. Switched over to shore power and I get the outlets in the cuddy and TV...

Mercruiser Outboard suddenly accelerates to full throttle

Even in neutral the 2000 Mercuriser outboard with 400 hrs accelerates to full throttle within 20 seconds or so of starting. Otherwise, she starts and runs perfectly. Any ideas?

200 Robalo boat that has a Wahoo serial number

I recently purchased a 2000 Robalo 2240 boat. Today, I attempted to add the boat to my insurance policy and was told that the serial number did not show up as a Robalo. Apparently the serial number reflects a Wahoo boat. I know that Robalo bought the Wahoo brand but I am getting uneasy...

    Pinhole leaks in the pontoons

I have an 8 yr old pontoon that was in fine condition. I took it to coastal NC and used it in the ICW for a week or so afterwards I cleaned excessively (boat, motor, pontoons, bimini and trailer)and left it for almost one full year. When I finally returned and dropped it in the water, it...

    Perko Switch question

I have a new to me 1994 Sea Ray 330 Sundancer with twin motors. In the battery compartment I have a common Perko switch for battery 1, 2 , all or off. No problem there, I understand the switch. Adjacent to that Perko switch, I have another Perko switch that is simply "on or off". Any...

I'm interested in learning to cruise the ICW

Does anyone have any good ideas about how to "learn the ropes" of the ICW? Initially, I'd like to cruise from just north of Myrtle Beach, SC to Charleston, SC. After a few trips (depending on my experience and level of comfort) I plan to expand the trips further north and south. I've got...

Carpet on Cable lift bunks is very worn.

Nearly down to the bare wood (and in some cases it is bare wood) I don't "slid" my boat on or off the bunks. I position the boat over the bunks and lift. Is the bare wood harmful to my hull? Thanks, Sam

    Port side fuel gauge "bounces"

I am running between 1/4 and 1/2 tank of fuel in both tanks. The starboard side reads correctly and the gauge is stable. The port side guage continually "bounces" around making the reading somewhat misleading. Any reason the gauge would operate like this? Thanks, sam

    Missing belt on twin 5.7's.

Just bought a "new to me" SeaRay with twin 5.7 Mercruisers. I noticed the Starboard motor has two belts but the Port side only has one. Not sure why???? Power steering?? Alternator???? Any ideas? (If one belt is truely missing, there is no sign of it in the engine compartment)

Will this trailer work for my boat?

I recently purchased a 330 Sea Ray (new to me - 1994). Although I don't necessarily have to remove her during the winter, I really like the idea of getting her out of the water and "tinkering a bit". I have found a very reasonable trailer on CL that says it will carry a 38 ft boat. Is there...

Water coming out of a fitting on the port side bow

As I walk through the marina, I see a few boats that have a fairly steady stream of water coming from the boat through an above water fitting. These boats are docked and on shorepower. Is this by design? Is it just a bilge pump operating normally or is the boat taking on water from an...

What is the proper way to use a gen set for overnight cruising?

My new to me (1994) SeaRay 330 Sundancer is in great condition. I intend to use her for 3 or 4 days at a time in the ICW on the NC shore. I've never used a generator before and I am concerned with CO emissions and possible cabin contamination. Is it proper to leave the generator running...

Is my cable lift adequate for my boat?

I just purchased a 330 SeaRay Sundancer. My cable lift has adequate lifting force (13,000 lbs) but the bunks are only 10 ft long. Will my 33 footer sit safely on this lift? Thanks, Sam Baker
