    1953 Evinrude 15 Hp 15012 - conversion to a fuel pump

Hey gang! It's been a very long time since I've posted, so here's a brief catch-up: I got my engine running great! After three...yes, three... carb rebuilds, it turns out that the sintered fuel filter was completely blocked. New filter, and this runs really well. If you remember my old posts...

    simple...but perhaps confusing....prop question ('53 15HP Super Fastwin)

Hi folks, I've done a ton of searching here at iBoats, but I haven't found any threads that address my seemingly-simple question... I just finished restoring a '53 15HP Evinrude Super Fastwin; The prop on my engine is a.) old, b.) not in great shape, and c.) of unknown origin & spec. I'm...

Any old-engine gurus in N. / C. NJ? ('53 Evinrude Super Fastwin) *update! It runs!!*

Hey gang......me again. I haven't written in ages; it's been a very busy year. Anyway: 1953 Evinrude Super Fastwin.....you can read my other posts if you want, but the upshot is, after rebuilding it, rebuilding the carb 2x, rebuilding the pressure tank, new hoses, etc., etc., etc...

changing the O rings in the 2-hose connector on the end of the tank's hose.....how?

Title pretty much says it all: I want to change the O rings inside the connector (on a 2-hose pressure tank setup)... How do they come out? They're located behind a flat disk that appears to be pressed into the connector body. There's got to be a disassembly procedure, but I sure can't find...

Evinrude 15012...I'm at a crossroads & this *might* be my last thread on iBoats

Not trying to sound dramatic, but this voyage might be coming to a rapid conclusion. Earlier this year, I had the chance to buy a 14' Century SeaFlyte in AA++ condition for an extremely-reasonable price. This was a driving motivator in restoring my Grandmother's old engine. By the time I...

Silly question: can an electric start be added to an old pull-start engine?

Silly question: can an electric start be added to an old pull-start engine? Do any sort of conversion "aftermarket" kits exist? The engine in question is an old '53 15HP Super Fastwin (15012) As my restoration gets closer to completion, it occurs to me that *I* can / will yank that...

'53 Super Fastwin......it wants to run. It really does! EDIT: IT'S ALIVE

I haven't posted in ages, but some of you may recall my many posts last fall & earlier this spring about my ground>>>up restoration of a '53 15HP Super Fastwin. This might get long....I'll try not to ramble It's "done", so today I went to the store and bought a tank & a hose. Mounted the...

"2-hose" to fuel-pump conversion...second thoughts. Someone smack some sense into me

"2-hose" to fuel-pump conversion...second thoughts. Someone smack some sense into me Hey folks, I haven't posted in a while, but the '53 Super Fastwin (15012) restoration continues. Since I received the motor without a tank, my immediate thought was "where will I find one?" I turned to the...

'53 super fastwin....new pull-start rope: where to buy?

'53 super fastwin....new pull-start rope: where to buy? That's the question...what are you using for replacement rope and where do you buy it? The old rope is 7/32" diameter, and is a braided construction of some sort of very stiff rope. Entering the Evinrude part number (42A137) into any of...

    '53 super fastwin....J4C or J6C?

Simple spark plug question...or so I thought. 15HP super fastwin 15012...my manual says to use an (obsolete) J4J. Well, that crosses to the modern J4C...which is fine. J4C is readily available.....but a lot of people seem to be running the slightly hotter J6C. Why? Is there a reason that...

Continuing the restoration: Rebuilding the lower.....is this a good idea?

The restoration is moving forward. My machining issues on the shaft have been resolved, so it's time to rebuild the lower. I really don't have the means to do a meaningful pressure test; I have no means of doing a vacuum test at all......so I was contemplating this: Complete rebuild, seals...

LAst two questions for the weekend

Last 2 questions....I promise! 1.) throttle cam on magneto: I've seen this picture a million places, and I "get it"... ...except my throttle cam is held on with slotted screws. To adjust it, I need to somehow get a screwdriver up under there, and no mater which way I turn the engine...

    fuel line question(s)

'53 superfastwin = dual-hose fuel system, but if you've read my other threads, you know I'm converting over to a fuel pump system. With the original layout, it was two, very-short hoses from the inlet connection block to the carb & manifold. But with the pump mounted high on the starbord...

    '53 15HP restoration: reassembly begins...with questions (Pictures)

1953 Evinrude 15012, 15HP..... Time to begin the reassembly, and some questions have popped up. 1.) Magneto plate / throttle linkage. I didn't notice this when I disassembled everything, and now I'm not 100% I have things reassembled properly. The throttle linkage (bolted under the magneto...

    today was "Carburetor Day"

today was "Carburetor Day"..... The carb on this project was bad. Really bad. Completely frozen up, no moving parts would move. The body was heavily corroded. Twenty+ years laying in mud behind a barn will do that, I suppose. I wish I had taken more "before" pictures, but here ya...

(Hopefully) simple question about a fuel pump.... **Mounting pics added**

Converting my '53 Super Fastwin from double hose to single, I was told that this was a great pump to use. It came with no instructions......I guess I'm supposed to just know, but I don't: of the 3 barbs....."A" - big plastic, "B" - small brass, "C" - big brass, Which barb is "fuel in" from...

    '53 Super Fastwin 15HP....data available!

As I set out to rebuild this engine, I was immediately confronted by the fact that several on-line Evinrude part number databases simply don't go back to '53, even though the part number data is available to purchase. So I had to purchase it..... I have the "bulletin sheets" and the "part...

    another newbie question.....head gasket

another newbie question.....'53 super fastwin 15012 head gasket: just put it in & torque down? Or do these old engines need permatex sealant or some other sort of goop? Inquiring minds...

Super Fastwin restoration hits a snag.....problems in the lower

As discussed in other threads I've started, I'm restoring a '53 Super Fastwin 15012 15HP. Today, I dropped the lower. Opening the grease screw, water ran out. Swell. What a mess..... as you can see here. But everything cleaned up pretty well, and the lower gears are in remarkably good...

Does anyone sell Evinrude mid-50's "polychromatic blue" paint....in a spray can? <------------(That color....in the picture) Or perhaps a duplicolor (or some other car paint) that's close?
