I'm trying to troubleshoot a leaking timing cover - harmonic balancer seal leak. It only seems to leak when under load while cruising at 3200 to 3500 rpm.
I've run the engine in neutral at 2500 to 3000 for very brief periods to test, no apparent leaking.
My question - Will it hurt the engine...

I think I may have a misaligned timing chain cover on a 1989 4.3LX causing the harmonic balancer seal to repeatedly fail in a very short period of time.
I have ordered a tool to install the seal and hold the cover in place centered on the crankshaft. I would really like to remove the timing...

I'm looking for a good used Glastron 205 (or maybe a 225) and want to make sure I get one that was manufactured with the newer VEC technology. Can someone tell me the first year Glastron used VEC on the 205 models?
