    Tachometer drops off at high rpms

    I have a 1987 Johnson 90, at rpms above 3000 the tach drops to lower rpms and then goes to zero. Wiring has been checked and tach has been replaced. Old tach and new tach act the same. Thanks in advance for your response. Ken
