Yamaha 704 binnacle, hardwiring safety neutral switch

I’m installing a new 10 pin wiring harness for my new F115XB using a legacy 704 binnacle. The six pin plug connecting the binnacle and main harness is missing so I’m hardwiring it. No problem, except the for the two brown wires serving the neutral safety switch. Coming from the binnacle they’re...

1988 Yamaha 130. Reman. powerhead or used outboard?

My 1988 Yamaha 130 ETXG is dying and has awful compression numbers. I live in central NJ and have run this outboard only in saltwater, so I guess a rebuild is inadvisable. A new repower is probably more than my "allowance", so I'm looking at purchasing either a used outboard or remanufactured...

1988 Yamaha 130 EXTG needs rebuild

I'm in central NJ. Can anyone recommend a reputable shop for a rebuild? Alternatively, can anyone recommend a manufacturer of rebuilt powerheads? I'm leaning toward a rebuilt unit since I've got about 30 years in saltwater.

1988 Yamaha 130 ETXG - Trim Cylinder End Cap dust seal

I've scraped out the old dust seal revealing what appears to be a pressed-in brass insert. The brass insert does not appear to receive the replacement dust seal. The Yamaha parts diagram makes no reference to the brass insert. Is the brass insert a "legacy" of the old dust cap and to be...

    Fuel still good?

I have 25 gallons (half a tank) of 10% ethanol gasoline that was stabilized in 10/2012 with Sta-bil Marine (green Sta-bil). Can I top it off with fresh fuel and go or is the fuel bad? I have a 2 stroke engine.

Remote reservoir is full. Line not pinched. Batteries are good. With ignition on, emergency switch on engine's reservoir does not respond. Engine reservoir is half full. Suggestions?

1988 Yamaha 130 EXTG. Compression values have changed. Opinions?

I don't know the correct cylinder numbers so I will describe their placement as viewed from the engine's rear. I will call them Top Left (TL), Bottom Left (BL), Top Right (TR), and Bottom Right (BR). I measured compression only cold last year, and cold and hot this year. 2010 cold compression...

1988 Yamaha 130EXTG. Idles creeps up too high when warm.

Engine starts eagerly. When cold, idles high (as normal) then drops. Once warm though, it creeps up to around 1500 RPM. If I choke it it drops to around 800 or so for a minute but creeps back up again. Haven't really run it yet this season, just started it with muffs. Any ideas? Thanks!

1988 Yamaha 130EXTG. Must return shift shaft to neutral position.

While changing the water pump I somehow changed the shift shaft position. I believe it is in forward because turning the vertical shaft clockwise turns the prop clockwise. Can I turn the shift shaft manually and if so about how far (1/4 turn, 1/2 turn etc.) and in what direction (CW, CCW)? Thanks!
