The iboats forum moderators are excited to announce that at this time it appears the iboats forums posting pictures function is working once again. Though we cannot promise for how long, we're hoping for indefinitely.
Where can I go to find the proper prop cone pin for the cone on my 1983 85HP Forge outboard?
It seems to have a threaded collar.
The cone is listed as a Quicksilver F523094-2 Propeller Cone Nut for a Chrysler/Force 100-140HP. Please see pic.
Thanks,
AL
There is a small bolt one inch to the left and slightly lower than each spark plug hole. Next to cylinder 1, the over-heat sensor is in that spot. How about the for the other two cylinders, what are they there for? Can I use one of them to install a cylinder head temp sensor? thanx.
Like what can be done with a hydrometer to test the coolant mix for a car, what kind of test is there to see the oil to gas ratio? In the three years I've had my boat, counting the gallons added from the beginning, I'm just about to finish my first tankful (I have a...
Like what can be done with a hygrometer to text the coolant mix for a car, what kind of test is there to see what my current oil to gas ratio is? In the three years I've had my boat, counting the gallons added, I'm just about to use my first tankful (I have a permanent tank...
I?m still looking for the perfect dunk tank to use while testing the motor instead of using the water muffs. Near as I can tell the ideal set up is a container that is at least 24? deep, 16? wide and 29? long that can handle about 40+ gallons of water. The 45 gallon bin I just used from Wally...
This is a pic of my thermo as it lay when I removed it after a slight beaching (the cause for my prior overheating thread). I had not previously touched the thermo since I bought the boat in 2010. (I've since replaced the thermo, dropped the lower unit, flushed out the motor with a garden hose...
As I've been going about catching up with the maintenance and sometimes upgrading the systems of my boat to make it less likely that I'll have a break down, it's now time I improve my fuel delivery. I want to install not only a disposable, in-line fuel filter along the line just before the...
Went to raise the my motor from an all the way down position. As normal I hit the up button at the switch I installed by the motor and only got a faint click. Hit the down button and it operated normally. Just in case, I went to the dash mounted switch got the same results. I tried to switch...
OK, now that I'm finally putting the hours that I should have as a boat owner. I've always run across the phrase: "when warm" when reading the manuals or even on this forum. My questions is, when I've got the boat hooked up on ear muffs in my driveway and I get the motor started, when does...
I've never done a starter clean/refurb. I've done some searching and watched a few vid's on youtube. It's 30 years old, so I thought I might as well since I'm doing all the catch-up maintenance anyway. For my OEM starter, what do I need to keep in mind while restoring my starter? Are the...
OK, I added a 20-pole Tach two years ago, but am only now getting around to hooking it up. I've located the purple wires on the dash and at the motor ends. I've tested the continuity from the dash to the strip connector at the motor and from the strip connector to the OEM rectifier. All are...
OK did my compression test. I'm assuming that the top most plug is the called cylinder #1. Top to bottom: 145, 140,145. The plugs were black and dry. The left one is the plug from the top. What is the picture telling me about the life each plug has been leading?
I?ve done compression test on cars but not on boats with coil packs and CD units.
OK, first-time boat owner?s like me, in doing your search to see how to do a compression test without shocking yourself or causing more damage, you'll come across descriptions like "...jump the solenoid so you...
OK as I noted in one of my prior posts, I ran aground slightly and sucked up some sand when I reversed out. This likely was the cause of my over-heat alarm going off, if only temporarily. I figured I might as well do the impeller change in order to make sure that all the sand was gone and it...
OK I did a search, but couldn't find any fast answers. Why is it that on most motors I see out an about, the cone shaped propeller nut is missing? It's only $8. Does it go faster, look cooler, or what? Thanks.
OK, though I've had my boat (my first one) for almost three years, it stayed in my garage for the last two years until recently. It seems that some of my hard starting and power loss issues are directly related to poor contacts and not enough battery power even though my volt gauge always reads...
In starting the motor for testing, I finding lately that at times the starter with engage and turn the motor but sometimes it just stops in the middle of an attempt and will not. When it doesn't the whole engine is dead. I mean when I turn the key on, my gauges don't work and I have complete...
Re: Bought a tilt/trim unit... Now for the install?
Here are the follow up pics I promised.
1- installed TNT switch (easy access to the trailer lock, note the Tiny Tach at the left side lower corner)
2- note the surface mounted heat sensor for the temp gauge, it's small and easy to install...
Finally getting around to fixing my hard starting problem has also gotten me to want to finish another couple of items on the long overdue "things to do list": hooking up my 20 pole tach and adding a kill switch. What the heck I've got the dash apart might as well get it done once and for...
Re: 1983 85hp Force choke solenoid not working properly?
Alright, tested the green 12v power wire from the key switch to the solenoid by disconnecting the wire at the key switch and touching it with a test wire directly connected to the battery. Initially it sparked and nothing happened. I let...
