    converting from steering to tiller

    I have a 1986 15 hp. evinrude. For the tiller change over, will only 1986 parts work? Also....how do i determine what year a motor is? model # or serial #. How is the code used? I don't want to purchase the wrong year parts motor.<br />thank you m.f.
