    The throttle cable attaches to the knob sticking up from the gear in your second photo.. You need the bracket that is forward of the gear. Once again these are just examples and may not be exact to your motor..

    The bar thing is a starter lockout for when throttle is advanced. This is an example and might not be exactly like yours.

    Okay sorry when you said you where turning the prop for shifting I thought the problem was when the motor was not running. Give your serial number and maybe someone can help you.

    If it shifts well while running then it should be okay.. If not running you need to rotate prop while shifting or risk damaging something inside the gearcase.

    The model number 217 59673 is a 1970 5hp made by Eska. I think the power head is probably built by Tecumseh.

    No that's the correct one they been using it since 1980. If you don't believe me just ask racerone.. He knows everything. Just disregard where it says 1999 through 2004 models.

    I would think 15 or 20 is referring to shaft length.

    Did they have four strokes in 1980? Because the guide you insist is from 1980 does..

    It was the smaller size of the first one that made me look twice.. Also I'm pretty sure they didn't have 3 cylinder 25 and 35 in 1980 when the guide was first used.

    How can there be a sample listing of 1999 on a guide that is from 1980 to 1998 ?????? The sample listing is 1999 yes but LOOK very closely at the HEADING of the guide in post #8 ... No matter how hard you try you can't tell me it doesn't say Outboards 1999 and newer.
