I have a 4-3/4 lower unit (78 150 v6), but I have a 4-1/4 prop, from a xr4 / I6. It fits, but is there any down side to running the smaller prop hub, like Performance?

I have a 1985 mercury 150hp, one of my coils is not getting any power, could this be that square switch box thing that all my coils positives are hooked to? Or something else?
Thanks, Jared
I read somewhere that if I were to remove (which I did) the idle control box, little black box beside the fly wheel, that I would have to set the timing, 23deg @ wot. If this is correct, what is the safest way to do this? Should it be in the water or under a load? Its a 1985 merc 2.0 XR2, on...
Hi, I have a 1978 V6 150, and I need to remove the mid to fix some holes drilled for the exhaust (long story ). Is there anyway to remove the midsection without having to lift the powerhead? If so please explain.
Thanks Jared

I have a 16.5' checkmate with a merc. 150 and a alum. 23p prop. My boat runs 56mph/gps @ only 5000rpms. My question, will a ss mirage 21p prop get the rpms up where they should be, or do I need to go even lower in pitch than a 21? And will this kill my top end?
Thanks Jared.
