I've got an 88 blackmax xr2 150. Was running great til i got in this grass at lake seminole. Now it will crank up fine when i lift my idle lever (for a higher idle) but when i lower it down to normal idle it shuts off. Any ideas?

There is a piece that has gotten broken off my motor. I think its called the trim tab but not sure. Its located on the lower unit right above the prop and its shaped like a small fin. What is the purpose of this? Do they just screw in or do I have to remove the lower unit to replace it?
