    joined the merc club

Hello, been gone for awhile. My old arm got tired of yankin' the rope on my 66yr old 'Rude which is only 7 yrs younger than me. So I sprung for a new 9.9 HP Merc. Got it mounted on my 12' Livingston and took it out for a breakin period. Of course I got the electric start model else I would have...

    Gas can spout cap fix

For those, myself included, who lose the spout cap. Using a die grinder or rat tail file, ream the ID of some 3/4" PVC pipe so it fits snug on the spout. Then cut it so fits about flush in a PVC cap. Mike

    Another pontoon prop question

24' Landau 2 tube w/ 90HP Force. Has 14 x13P prop. Motor ID tag says 5250RPM max. It will go to 6000RPM at WOT. Will I gain anything w/ a prop w/ more bite? It works great for trolling as is and will do about 20MPH at 5000RPM. Just curious. TIA...

    Evinrude 3 HP mod# 3022 recoil starter

A friend just gave me this. It works perfect except somewhere along the line the recoil starter got separated from it. Does anyone know some sources who might have one. TIA, Mike

For the cotton belt 'toon owners

I decided I don't need an expensive cover to keep the leaves, dust and bird poop off. Got this module tarp for $75. Looks redneck I know, but it should do the job as good as a $300 cover. It has ropes to tighten it down where the green meets the white and at the bottom of the white. I plan to...

    outboard+saltwater question

We're going fishing on Copano Bay next month and taking our fishing boat w/ the old '54 'rude. I've made up an adapter to fit the water flush plug hole. My question is: do I need to run the motor while flushing this way to keep water from running out thru the pump? The boat will be in the water...

    question on old merc carb

I've been resurrecting an old 110 ('64-'65) and have had trouble getting a smooth idle. Took carb apart first thing and it was super clean inside. Finished all the other things needing done and stuck it in the test tank. Runs fine at high speed but couldn't get a smooth idle. Decided to take it...

    Picked up two old mercs

Got a '65 110 and a '55 Mark 20 at a yard sale for $35 for both. Been working on the 110 to get it running for a fishing buddy. Water pump key was shot, got a new one and had to build some gas lines. got it in the test tank, runs fine but pump isn't moving enough water. Will order a new pump...

    Questions about old evinrude

Well, old Oly, my '54 15 HP isn't running so smooth anymore. Next to last time we were out it started running on one cyl for about ten min and then went back to two and ran fine the rest of that trip. Last time out it started and ran fine out to our fishing hole. Started it to head back and it...

    Help ID old Merc

Picked this up for very cheap($10). Checked for spark and shot some ether in the carb and cranked it w/ my drill. It fired up and ran for a couple of secs. Removed carb and it is nice and clean inside. Getting to my thread title, someone removed the ID tag and I need help finding the mod # so I...

Had to plug the pee hole

A leafcutter bee decided the 1/4" hose was an ideal place to lay eggs. I cleaned it out twice!!! This is the only solution I could come up with. Now I just have to remember to remove it when removing the straps and transom saver. Mike

    Made my own cowl dampers

Since I got this old(1954) 15HP rude the rubber mounts for the cowl were worn out and it made an annoying rattle while trolling. Changed the water pump out today and decided to see if I could fabricate some new cowl dampers. Figured out to use 5/16" fuel hose along w/ 5/8" heater hose. By...

    Force thermostat problem

Have a '98 Force 90 HP. Last time I had it in the water, the pee hole had no water coming out, so the other day I took the thermostat housing off to find out why. We have some kind of bee around here that loves to nest in anything small and cylindrical so that was the problem w/ the pee hole...

Trouble starting cold in the water

I have a '98 Force 90 HP. Today I backed the tlr in the water and tried to start engine before releasing it from the tlr. It would try and then the starter bendix would kick out. After several of these tries I raised the motor up quite a ways w/ the T&T and then it started up fine. Once it...

    Noobie W/ solved problem

Just joined up, looks like a real good site. This is probably old hat to some of you. My 90 HP Force got so it wouldn't crank. Starter would turn up to co mpression and then stall w/ batt reading 12.3 v. Checked ALL CONNECTIONS, finally removed starter and disassembled it. Found bushings were...
