The iboats forum moderators are excited to announce that at this time it appears the iboats forums posting pictures function is working once again. Though we cannot promise for how long, we're hoping for indefinitely.
Does anyone know what range of temperature to expect for heads on a V6 Merc?
I think the temp switch will trigger an alarm at 240 degrees. Does this mean any temp between 142 degrees (temp when T-stats open) and 240 degrees is acceptable?
Thank you.
I've noticed my RPM indicator shows intermittently higher than what the engine is actually running at (verified by sound and with a synchroscope).
I believe the signal for engine speed is sent from one of the two voltage regulators on the engine and both regulators appear to be identical...
I just finished rebuilding my 150 HP Offshore. Linc and Synched her, set max and idle timing ran fuel pump, lube injector tests and also tested the lube alert module system.
Sea tested her Monday for the first time with a three hour run around the islands of Boston Harbor varying speeds never...
Started my engine after rebuilding it over the winter.
I completed all link and synch checks and, with the white/black idle stablizer lead isolated, found the idle timing at 8.5 degrees ATDC. The idle speed of this engine sounds smoother than I have ever heard it in the last 6 years.
I have...
I am rebuilding a Merc V-6 150 HP engine. The Merc shop manual recommends using Quicksilver 2-4-c lubricant with teflon when reassembling the wrist pins and needle bearings.
The websites I have checked (Boaters world, West marine) indicate that Quicksilver 2-4-c lubricant with teflon should NOT...
The stock reeds on my V6 have close to 500 hours, and some of them are out of spec. I have been looking at Boyesen reeds to replace them. Are these aftermarket reeds as good as Boyesen posts on their site? Does any other after market company manufacture intake reeds for V6 Mercs?
The head of my 150 hp, carberated, V6 is in the shop for machining. The # 3 and 4 pistons burned up pretty good (detonation from a carberator leak) on the last day of summer. I have read that certain things should be done to help break this engine in. Some of these include retarding the spec...
While removing the flywheel from my Merc 150 Offshore, some of the alternator magnets were damaged:eek:.
Has anyone ran into this problem, and if you have what are my options (dealer is looking for $400 + for a new flywheel) OUCH!
THANK YOU
I have tried to take great care of my boat and engine since I bought them on 2001. The trim and tilt on my outboard required seal replacement and rewiring of the electric motor (repairs I did). Two weeks ago, while heading offshore with a couple of fishing buddies, I noticed a change in the...
