    85 Mariner-fast idle causes gears to grind putting in gear

    2 cylinder with idle set as low as it will go and is running fine except when putting in gear (especially when putting in reverse) --clunks and grinds real bad. Do you have any suggestions on a fix for this problem. I hate to let it tear out the lower unit.<br /><br />Thanks,<br />Jeff L

    40hp Mariner, hard start, rough idle,planes off then dies

    1986 40hp Mariner, 2 cylinder. Motor ran fine the beginning of the summer. Set in dry dock for about 3 weeks, then suddenly had trouble getting it started. Once it started, it idled rough and try to die. When I take off, the boat will get up to plane then die. Now this sequence of events...
