1986 Searay with 4.3ltr v6 sitting up for couple of years. Has forward but no reverse. Any maybe to do with "interrupter switch" or something more serious?

Boat has been in storage over a year but has been started often and ran in neutral only. I cranked it yesterday and did put it into forward gear with no problem as the prop turns but when I put it in reverse it does nothing. Any hints?
