Replaced the coils in my 73 65HP Johnson. I have a couple of questions surrounding the Powerpak. What role does it play in ignition besides sending 12 volts to the coil at the right time? What are signs of a powerpak failing? Will the motor run crappy or does a bad pak usually...

My 73' 65 HP Johnson is starting really hard when its cold. Not sure what the deal is - it almost sounds like its flooded. When I turn it over I have to turn it over for 20 - 25 seconds before it starts. It sounds like it wants to start but it just doesn't happen easily.
Any thoughts...

Lately I have been taking it out on the lakes and it has been very difficult to start the first time - however it always starts after 15-20 seconds of constant cranking the 4th or 5th time and starts right...
