    1996 100HP reverse dog clutch bad?

    Have chattering noise when putting in reverse nothing in forward when in the lake but is not noticeble when tried out of the water with muffs on. Someone thought it may need a new reverse clutch dog. If so is it something the average mechanic can do at home. Thank you,
