i have an evinrude v4s11-1959- with no guages connceted does anyone know were my temp sensor is on the engine

1959 water or air cooled

i have a 1959 evinrude v4s11 and i was wondering if i can run it out of water or will it over heat none of the guages are attached yet. mabye a garbage can of water?
