What should the setscrews on the carbs be turned back to after bottoming out? I can only find one setscrew on each carb. It is a high speed or a low speed adjustment setting? One turn out, 1.5, or what? I tried to do it by ear and it seems to run better with them in way too far and do not...

I have an option of placing a 50 Yamaha (1990) or an Evinrude (1994) on an 18' Carolina Skiff. Both engines being roughly equal in running smoothness, which would be the better option for fuel efficiency, dependability, and longivity? The Evinrude has tilt n trim and is four years younger and...

    High test or regular fuel?

What is the recommendation regarding fuel quality? Cheaper fuels have ethanol which breaks down and/or absorbs water so I have been told. Is there a long term accumulation problem with varnish in the carb jets and needle valves? Any additives designed to overcome this problem?
Thanks<br...

    Identifying engine

Just added a "new" engine. It is an Evinrude 48 hp, two cyl, which I believe to be a mid 80's year. The ser # (freezeplug) is G 3515479. Cannot find the regular id tag. What I need to know is the oil/ gas ratio (50 to 1?) or is it the old quart to 6 gallons?
Thanks, Ben :(
