    Tips On Replacing Starter

Thanks. I'm assuming the one I want is the "staggered pattern for 168 tooth flywheel?"

    Tips On Replacing Starter

Thanks again for all the help/ideas. I did a quick search for the PMGR to fit my motor, but couldn't find it. Will have to do a deeper search when I have more time.

    Tips On Replacing Starter

Mission accomplished using @cyclops222 method in post #4 above. I had some threaded rods left over from an old project years ago that worked perfectly. Only issue was that I couldn't get the exact torque on the bolts (got the factory ones from Mercruiser when I ordered the new starter)...

    Tips On Replacing Starter

Thanks guys. The question is where would I find a PMGR for my motor? I don't even know where to look. Got the new starter on Friday and just got a chance to get back in the boat for some pics. Still trying to decide how to prop up the starter while removing the old one and installing the new...

    Tips On Replacing Starter

Wow, thanks guys for all the info! Will post a pic shortly. The original engine was a 1994 7.4L Mercruiser, replaced with a custom built 496 stroker 3 years ago. Still has the original starter P/N 863007A1. @cyclops222 - That method is pure genius!

    Tips On Replacing Starter

My starter is shot, just ordered a new one and want to try replacing it without pulling the engine out. Easy access with my right arm/hand, but left arm/hand is going to be hard. Anyone tried doing this one-handed?

    No trim-down

The trim-down toggle on my shifter stopped working, trims up just fine. Only way to trim down is using the tilt toggle. Any ideas what's wrong?

    Metal Boat Lettering

Thanks guys, got it done on Thursday. Still a bit surprised I didn't slice any fingers off with all that detailed x-acto work!

Not to just post the pic, but to use it in my signature. So far, I can only get the thumbnail to show up there. 🤔

    Metal Boat Lettering

The next challenge is going to be getting out my X-ACTO blades to offset the edges when I put the tape on the back of the letters. I really like how Chaparral did that. When looking at the letters on the boat, it looks like they are just floating off the surface of the gelcoat.

    Metal Boat Lettering

@Scott Danforth - I believe you're right. That does look like what was used. The boat just turned 29 years old and all those original chrome letters and the logo are still solidly in place and don't budge at all. The instructions say it takes 72 hours to cure 100%. Wondering if I should rig...

Hip Hip Hooray! Finally got it working, but no idea why the picture is so grainy. Thanks guys, much appreciated!

I couldn't get the link from Photobucket to work, so I created an album here and uploaded the pic to that album. Now just trying to figure out how to get the link from that album to put at the bottom of the signature. 😖
