    Outboard Jet Exhaust Tube

I have a 2008 Mercury Optimax 150hp with a jet pump. the adjustment tabs are missing from my exhaust tube and so I’m looking to replace it. I removed the U-bolt from the side, but I can’t get the tube to budge. I’ve even tried squirting penetrating oil in there and applying heat. Does anyone...

    Mercury Big Tiller Hydraulic Steering

Most common on the 150hp and bigger, but I’ve even seen them on 80hp outboards. They are a little pricy, but they give you finger tip control.

    Mercury Big Tiller Hydraulic Steering

I have a Mercury Optimax 150 big tiller on my sled. It has the hydraulic connectors on the tiller arm, but nothing else. On long days my arm is getting tired so I’d like to hook up the hydraulic steering. Is there a kit for this? Either after market or OEM is fine as long as it’s reliable...

    1986 vs 1999

I realize that a jet is not as efficient as a prop, but the rivers I fish has some very skinny water so a jet is a must. Im basically wondering if the 1999 motor is a big step up from the 1986 motor I currently have? I don’t want to plop down 16k right now for a new 4 stroke, but I’d like to...

    1986 vs 1999

I have a 1986 Mercury jet 150 XR2 carbureted that runs smooth at 4K RPM but is rough at idle and slow speeds. I have the opportunity to buy a 1999 Mercury 200 jet carbureted that’s recently been tuned up and is said to be in like new condition. My question is….is there a big difference between...

    1986 gauges

So I have another question. Pictured above is the back of the old tach and the new tach. Since a 1986 Mercury 150 is 6 cylinders, do I point the little arrow to the #2? I’m a little confused because of where the old one is set.

    1986 gauges

Thanks for the feedback. The gauges I purchased came with a 0-30 psi gauge so hopefully it works.

    1986 gauges

I have a 1986 Mercury 150 XR2. I’m in the process of restoring the boat and would like to replace the gauges. I’m fabricating a new gauge cluster, so any size/style is fine. the engine only has 3 gauges, Tach, Temp and pressure. I’m guessing the pressure is for water. Anyway, are all gauges...
